    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Recently aquired brand new SM630. I have an 06 TE610 with 18000 miles on it, and that is a carbed version that runs real strong. I'm still breaking in the SM with about 5 hours on it now. After reading some of the posts about how bad it runs stock, I just want to give my input. Mine runs quite smooth, no stalling, no bad habits at slow speeds. It does 'buck' a bit at steady throttle settings, but not bad IMO. It has not been PU'd yet. I have the parts on order. I bought mine in NH, but it had a sticker on the rear fender that said someting to the effect "this vehicle ignition spark settings meet Canadian spec ###". Could it be my bike is jetted different than a USA model and that why it runs okay out of the box. Any Canadian owners on here? Overall the quality seems very good and I have found no loose bolts or any others problems with it so far.
 
Wait until you get that PU kit installed.

You'll have to adjust your idle back down once it's in, but it sure does make a big difference.
 
Congrats on the new 630! Two TE 630's here and we love them. The only thing I can recall being loose on the bikes was the ignition. Both mine and hers were loose and ready to back out in to the abyss. Some blue loctite stops that. The only other thing was both our crossover mid pipes rubbed on the shock spring. Easy fix by loosening up the mid pipe and moving it back some. The 630's are great bikes!
 
Here's a rundown of all the things I've had wrong with my 630:

1. Loose ignition switch bolts
I actually lost one on the road somewhere and had to buy another. I threw some Loctite on them and tightened them back down. No problems since.

2. Oil pump cover leak
Several gasket and cover replacements later, the only thing that worked was to replace the entire clutch cover and oil pump cover with new parts. All parts were supplied under warranty.

3. Clutch master cylinder cover leak
New reservoir membrane, warranty replacement.

4. Clutch master cylinder piston leak
New master cylinder, warranty replacement.

5. Clutch pushrod "tech update" (not technically a recall, but similar)
New clutch pushrod, warranty replacement.

6. Gauge cluster not water tight
My gauge had what appeared to be some condensation in it when I received the bike. Hall's told me it should dry up, and it seemed to. A recent ride in heavy rain brought the "condensation" back, which turned out to be a gauge cluster that's not water tight. My gauges are currently useless, and I'm relying on my GPS for a speedometer/tripometer right now. New gauges are on the way, warranty replacement.

I have to be honest with you, up until this point I have only owned Japanese sportbikes. I had to do nothing to them except change the oil and mod them to my liking. This bike has had more failures (and fewer miles) than any bike I have ever owned. However, they have all been very easy to fix. Even at 450 miles away, my dealer (Hall's Cycles) has been very supportive and quick to get me the parts.

My 630 hasn't been without it's issues. But, my experience with Hall's and the bike has been great and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Husky.
 
Thanks for the input. Always nice to check little problem areas others have had, but to this point I have found absolutely nothing wrong. At this point, and I wouldn't expect it to, it definitely doesn't pull like my 06 TE610 (carbed). But I really like this bike. Everything works smooth, awesome brakes, stable, yet changes lines quickly. I wasn't looking for a radical wheelie machiine and I love the torque of my 610 motor, so I think I'm gonna like this even more as the power builds.
 
I got the first SM 630 that came into the states last year in May and the only problem I have had was the rear sprocket was loose. Fortunately I was changing the gearing soon after I bought it so there was no damage to the hub. I had the same problem with my 08 610 when I bought it. It is mind boggling to me that something like that still happens these days and even after BMW took over. That is something that there is no excuse for and I have never seen it on any other motorcycles that I have owned, especially my KTM's. That being said, all is good and I would still buy another one! :thumbsup:

Huh! I was getting some squeaking in the rear after my last ride and thought it was something with the rear shock.... gonna have to check into the midpipe rubbing! Thanks for the heads up, and sorry for the thread-jack!

I fixed mine by cutting it off. :D
 
Check your rear sprocket nuts and bolts as mentioned above!!! Mine were very loose at 1,200 miles. ATD1 and I ride together so I mentioned to him he better check. His were all loose at 500 miles. Clean the bolt threads with a wire brush and re-apply thread lock if needed.

She has some serious torque going to the sprocket!!

If you have removed the passenger pegs you might want to put them back on. After 36 years of pavement riding without hitting the deck I did so last friday at around 30 mph. Between the passenger peg, foot peg and hand guard slider it pretty much kept everything else off the pavement. The passenger peg was tore off and the mount was bent, both peg mounting bolts were bent, hand guard slider ground down and the mirror was broke. The flywheel side cover and left fork tube have some scratches that you don't notice unless you really look close. But I think the passenger peg was the main reason the bike didn't have any rash on the back end.

I dropped mine without the passenger pegs. Same scratches as you mentioned and the foldable part of the gear lever bend a little bit.

Checked my sprockets and the nuts were tight & covered with a whitish coloured adhesive. Think that HVA might have corrected the problem in the meantime. (or maybe they fired the sprocket installer for wasting company Loctite?)

Yep, on full stroke (bouncing the bike) the spring was rubbing the crossover. loosened the clamps and slid it back ~1/4" and no more rubbing. Just make sure you don't let it touch the mudflap bolts or you might melt the mudflap a bit.

Did you have axle sliders installed? I plan on getting hand guards and axle sliders one of these days....

When did you start having problems? I am up to 200 miles. I look at my rear sprocket bolts everyday before I ride and I wiggle my ignition once in a while and it is tight. They both seem fine. My bike has not gotten wet yet so don't know about the condensation. No oil leaks. (knock on wood!)

No sliders. I'm still amazed at the lack of damage. You could see in the marks on the pavement where it hit the pavement and bounced a good three feet before it hit the pavement again. Be sure to post up pics of your sliders when you get them installed.

Pretty much from day 1. Now what I'm running into is that my new gauge cluster seems to be calibrated for the SM, and I can't find any information on how to change it. There's nothing in the owner's manual or shop manual that explains it.

I'm taking the bike on a 2000 mile road trip tomorrow and my speedometer, tripmeter and odometer are all WAY off.
 
I have 230 miles on my 630SM now but noticed last time i started it from cold it sounded very tappety from the top end for a few moments .Any one else experienced this
 
PU kit has arrived. I'll be putting it in tomorrow and we will see. Bike has run very well right out of the box and I haven't beat on it because I only have about 300 miles on it. Guess the only downside to putting it in this early is that it voids the warranty. I'll report back with my opinion.
And on a related note, the last time I rode it I got 55 MPG. Relatively tame riding keeping it under 6000 RPM. What mileages are others seeing, with PU, pipes,tuned,etc?
