    WR = 2st Enduro & CR = 2st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

Just picked up this 89 WR 250, any known weak points and any hard to find parts that I should start looking for now?P1010435.JPG

pretty much everything is hard to get for that year, 89-90 were transition years. yours is all italian, and is a good bike but many parts are unique and rare. probably 5 times easier finding parts for your 72, or an 88 bike

A bit of tinkering and she fired up after 5 kicks and the motor sounds sweet:banana:. The main issues are that the suspension linkages need replacing, the rear brake hub needs to be re bushed and rust everywhere, not as bad as expected. Will strip it down to a bare frame, give the cylinder a hone and new rings and of course needs new plastics and paint.

Keep an eye on the axle clamps on the WP forks...they will crack across the top.

Ditching the WP forks, installing a set of conventional forks off a 99 TE610 because the Vinduro club I ride with has simple rules. No USD forks or rear disc brake. The bike came with the forks and a set of triple clamps already machined to suit, just have to change wheel bearings.

FYI. After hours of research there is no conrod kit available hovever you can use a YZ 250 conrod the only difference is that the bottom end main pin is 4mm shorter than the Cagiva one. The only pistons I could find are Woosner pistons and there are not many left.

The KTM rod I use in the 360 is two mm shorter on the crank pin. Should be fine.
Just make sure it's evenly spaced.

Ok con rod is sorted but now I have another problem. The usable top end I have is off a 260 with a 71mm piston and the piston needs to be replaced. I have not been able to find a 71mm piston. Do they exist and if so where can I get one?

Just so you know I'm pretty sure Dahlitz has a complete engine for this bike out at Queanbeyan!

Already got it but the top end was worse than the one I had but the cases were in much better condition. Crank, bearings and seals being done this week, just need that illusive piston. Have found a 71.5mm piston, will have to get bore measured properly.

Good stuff! My goodness he must have had that donk sitting out the back for 20 years! All the best with sorting that piston! Would it be better/possible to sleve the cylinder down to say 68mm or bore it to 72mm? Just a thought, if it didn't throw port geometry out too much then it would be far easier to get pistons for in the future!
