  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New problem....coolant was gray when I checked it

I remember playing "name that crud" with my WR.

Well looking through my window, my oil don't look like that. That stuff looks like caramel ice cream topping. Yuk!

the coolant in my 511 looked like this:
P1010221-M.jpg

dunno why.
Changed it to Engine Ice and all is cool (pun intended)

What's best? Plain distilled water? 50/50? Engine ice? Zip tye? Desert riding over here so gotta keep my bike cool.

This will be like an oil thread, 1,001 choices....

Since I changed my leaky head gasket, I am using 25% any color coolant, and 75% distilled water, I am just a cheapskate, it seems I have drained and refilled the rads several times in the last few months, I didn't want to be using anything expensive.

i had the same thing in mine too! it's not coolant, it's alien blood! and it stinks!

since after 2009 im pretty sure the boys at the factory were taking the good stuff home, then, dumping their cheap lunch vino in the filler neck of our radiators.

Here is a couple of photos of my stock coolant after letting it settle over night. The coolant came out looking like Trinity river water, but came back to soft blue green after the crud settled. Any ideas?

Is that from a complete drain of the system?
How many times has the system been drained and refilled with clean water and coolant?
How many miles/hours on the bike?
Is that from a 2 smoke?

you n i ride similar area's or at least in the same temps. go with a waterless coolant like XF+. it's such cheap insurance and i could go on about all the fine points on how it works...suffice to say if you want to over heat and experience everything that goes with that then dont use it and stick with water based garbage.

if you ride the gnar and go fast, go with XF+. end of story.

This was the stock coolant fron 2012 wr300. Its fairly new with about 4 or 5 trail rides under its belt. I wanted to drain the coolant and crud into a shop towel and try to see what its made of, but ran out of time before i had to go out of town. Its a complete drain of the system since i needed to pull the clutch to check the shifter star

The bike seems to be running fine and hasn't overheated. I did replace the stock coolant with some maxima brand coolant after flushing the system. Never heard of the xf+.

I did a coolant search and found this thread and noticed it was a four stroke forum after posting.

ya did right by dumping the factory fill its crap i was shocked what came out of mine. for max perf- get the XF+. fer t-stat bypass mods and ideas see that thread.
