• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New off road YZ250X 2 stroke...

Maybe 20 play miles not 20 race miles... i know a guy with one on a YZ and he still has to gas and has ran out in a 90 min plus one lap hare scramble
It's true that a lectron will use about the same amount of fuel at wide open throttle as a Kehin or Mikuni but in the really technical stuff when you're better off in the mid range for traction is when it mizers the fuel. In the rocky terrain in MO and Colorado the Lectron was like a two for one mod because I no longer needed an oversized tank. If I race in the open desert then I would buy a tank and a Lectron.

I agree to each his own when it come to mods. I wouldn't run a Recluse if they were free and to me suspension is the best money spent which is why I like the Yamahas so much because they already nailed that so that you can spring it and move on.

Still not apples to apples though since the YZ has no e start, lighting coil or lights. I need all those and adding it would far exceed the difference in price. I hope Yamaha steps up big next year and gets serious.

You are assuming the e-start works, a couple of my friends have the very popular non working version that thousands of bikes were equipped with. You do make a good case for the Beta though.

Kinda wierd that they are only offering the X in the US and the WR in Europe. Why not sell both like the four stroke versions last year?

You mean the manufacturer that's been peddling the same motocross bike for the last 10 years? Good luck with that. They'll do the absolute minimum - and they're still better than the other Jap bike manufacturers.

I wish the Yamahas of today could be as current as the bikes you ride were in their day. Thanks for the insightful commentary.

If they went through and updated the bikes to what you consider a modern standard, would you pay $10K OTD for one?

My above comment was a facetious one. My point being that Zombie rides a couple bikes that were anything but current when they were new, yet he still rides them and unquestionably has fun on them.

The yamaha is a bargain at its retail price and just fine the way it is.

I'd love a Beta if I wasn't so freaking tall. I rode one this spring and it felt like a kids bike.
I had a 2003 GasGas EC200DE with Ohlins that was an awesome bike but not for my 6'6" self otherwise I'd have kept it. I thought the Beta 300 would be great until I saw one in person and knew it would be like the 7/8 scale GasGas. I did keep it for my son until he passed me in height (6'8" and still going).

Well I'm hoping the WR Europe is getting will have a reliable lighting coil we can order and add to our 250X here along with the headlight and mask. Add a Rekluse to stall proof it and give some luggability... Problem solved.

Hey, I totally get that. I race my 06 WR250. A lot of people make that comment and are serious. Lots of Punkin lovers are that way and that's why they go that way.

If I was in the market for a new race bike I'd take a long hard look at the Yamaha

I completely understand the point you're making, but one has nothing to do with the other.

And... I race my CR because I think it's a better, more competitive bike than a YZ125, and it was half the price. Now THAT'S a bargain. I don't see the Yamaha being a bargain. Not expensive, but Jap bikes are cheaper for a reason.

One has everything to do with the other. Your riding old crap that was equally or more outdated when it was new. Then you get on here and clutter this thread with meaningles opinion that we'd be better off without.

Wonder why your husky was so cheap? Wonder how much someone will be willing to pay you for it? I kinda like having things like available OEM parts and a plethora of aftermarket options.

I think we should start a thread titled "off topic chatter and opinions that don't mean anything". Then we could put about two thirds of everything in there.

only in 2 states Norm you can get recreational rego(not full rego to ride on road just for national parks/fireroads type riding-mxers illegal). for the rest of us its as useless as tits on a bull unless you are racing on closed courses where mxers or B class rego(one off event type) are acceptable!

we NEED a full ADR WR250 for it to worthwhile here!!!

My comments are relative to the discussion. Yours, not so much.

Just reading through here again. Still don't see talking about your super 125 as relevant in this 250 yamaha thread. My posts previous to this conversation are all directly related to the 250x.

This is sad, for a bike to be a hit it needs to be versatile.

I rode a 2006 RM250 today setup for woods (engine wise). I really liked it but the guy rides MX with it so the suspension was stiff. I haven't ridden a 2T since I was a kid, What a blast! I was flying through the woods like I was on a mountain bike. It climbed the rooty choppy hill climbs in 3rd gear with lot's of torque and good traction. I'm so getting a 2 stroke this winter. Something with the button though. Sorry for the derail but i'm still smiling. Partly from the RM and partly from seeing my 12 year old son getting better at riding and his excitement gets me excited.
