  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New look with the IMS Tank 2

Here is one example of the benefits of this fantastic forum.

I now have an IMS tank on and my bike still looks as good as when I first saw it on the showroom floor.

White tank - with shrouds

Instead of an adhesive or foam tape (all of which I purchased) I decided to use 2" wide "Industrial Strength" adhesive backed (available at Home Depot) Velcro tape. I used 2 4' long pieces for both shrouds. The reason I went this route, is that i allows me to remove/replace the shrouds if damaged. The setup works great. I "prepped" the surfaces of the tanks and shrouds by spraying them with carb cleaner.... it is mostly Xylene, which does a great job of softenning up the plastic to accept the adhesive backed Velcro.

I went on a 70 mile ride in the mountains 12 hours after installing the shrouds. Holding strong!

Nice! You fall down sometimes too?

Did you mean 4" instead of 4'? (that would be my guess)

Nice photos, Honard. Were they taken at Bald Mt in the Sierra NF?

Bald Mt. overlooking Shaver Lake. My backyard playground!

The downside of this trip, my fuel pump quit on me at the top of Bald Mt. What a PIA. my buddy had to tow me up and down 30 miles of trails, forest service roads and blacktop to my truck. Ughhh!

Coffee - the Velcro tape is 2" x 4' long. You cut it to length.

Ooh! I knew that place looked familiar:D I love it down there! I've done the Dusy Ershim a few times, and wanted to do it again this summer/fall along with Swamp. The last time I was there I rode my SV650 to the top...that was a blast!

(Uh...ahem...sorry for the hi-jack)

That sucks about your pump. Let us know what you find...once you figure it out...

The Velcro is a great idea allowing you to remove panels

I did 195 miles yesterday and even with one fall in some nasty single track, where the side of the front tank wing hit the ground, the red tank shrouds are still stuck on.

A benefit of having this stock tank panels on the IMS tank is that you now have some protection from impacts to the ground,, a buffer between your tank and rocks, sticks, mud, gravel and knee guards.

WOW, those are some nasty rides for sure. One of my friends just finished Dusy Ershim on a BMW X-Challenge. That would be quite a feat. Let me know when you're planning on riding them. I have quite a few riding buddies and we are always looking for any excuse to trash our bikes on a great ride.

IMS Tank Graphics

I peeled the stickers off the stock tank shrouds and stuck them on the IMS tank. Time will tell how well they stay put.

Your stock shroud graphics said IMS on the bottom?

Questions

Nope, Escondido in San Diego County.

Second question, those are stickers that came with the tank. I used them to cover the holes in the factory graphics, (mounting holes for the red plastic shrouds on the stock tank.

Looks good! You got IMS stickers with your tank? Rats, I got the short end of the stick on that. I had asked somewhere before if it were possible to remove the shroud graphics and reuse them and got nothing but no. Way to take the initiative :thumbsup:How did you remove them successfully and restick them?
