    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just bought a 2011 630 TE with 600 miles on it with mods done, Power Up, FMF pipe and JD tuner. When he fired it up in his garage it started a little slow but started. When i got it home a tried to fire it up and it was next to impossible, sputtering and almost firing and finally cranking throttle all the way it started. Ripped around the subdivision and it ran great. Warmed up and it fired up great. So question is i ordered the temp sensor, is it located behind the cylinder head with two wire plug connector? I also had fresh 94 octane gas in it.

I have never owned a husky and I have my 08 wr250 x yamaha forsale but I'm wondering if i am selling the right bike? I need some good old husky confidence boys!

It'll be fine. If you short crank it once or twice when starting up cold, it will take a bit of coaxing like you describe to get it cleared out and fired up. If it's cold-cold, you might try using the cold start lever over the brake lever.

If the temp sensor were bad, the fan would most likely be acting up and you would have trouble hot starting.

I know it's generally warmer down here, but mine will crank right up on a normal day, but if it's cold, I may roll in ~10-15% throttle as soon as I hit the button. Very rarely does it take more than 3 cycles to fire, but if I short-crank and let off the starter too early, it will take a bit more cranking.
 
Welcome Bill. If I let mine sit too long without charger or the idle is set too low it will act like that.

Welcome to the club. The Husky will be fine, like RDTCU says use the cold start lever and maybe a little throttle. The bike is great and I have a lot of fun on mine. Once you get past the Husky/BMW/KTM/Cdn distributor fiascos you will really enjoy the bike. Where did you pick it up? West Van? International? Or Burnaby? Lots of good info and very helpful people here. Most of the minor problems and mods have been figured out. Sounds like your bike is pretty well sorted, hit up JTemple for the service manuals and all will be good.

Thanks Guys for the replies, I read all the posts for hard starting and it seems it would be temp sensor the fan runs when cold but no flashing netural light. is the sensor located behind the cylinder? Hey Kirk picked it up in Vernon.

Also, the factory issued some new maps shortly after release....you should have your dealer run it on the MOSS and tune it up. They run much better afterwards.

Being an 11, he should be good to go. Bill, what are your Ibeat and JD settings? If the problem persists, you may need to throw it on I-beat and get the throttle zeroed.
 
Mate most huskies are slow to spool up when cold. I found that iridium plugs helped immensely. Also a trickle charger is a good ploy.
 
Mine´s the easiest bike to start (hot OR cold) I´ve ever owned. I never use the cold start mechanism (and don´t even know exactly what it does).
 
Bad gas? Or dirty air filter?

Edit the bad gas?, just saw fresh 94 oct when reading post to see if fans running all the time, because that's normally what they do when temp sensors STB.

I don't have ibeat and i don't know the JD settings, if i take it to a dealer i guess they can help me out with that info. does this sound like the right direction i'm going in replacing the temp sensor?

I've never had to use it either, but I don't usually ride in sub-freezing temps...
All it does is dump more fuel, similar to a choke.

It doesn't really sound like the symptoms of a bad temp sensor on these bikes.
Does your radiator fan ever come on randomly or run all the time?
 
It came on after ~2 minutes or right away? Big thumpers put out a lot of heat at idle, and I normally don't warm mine up for more than 30-45 seconds in the mornings. What's the temp like up there?

Just to let you know i put the battery on a charger and gave a little gas and around the third try it fires up! There is a little getting use to it but I am sure it will work out! Bought a temp sensor for down the road aways.

I'm glad we are discussing idle time to fan run. I have only had a chance to run my bike a couple times before storing for the winter and the fan came on within 2-3 minutes at idle in 40 deg F temps and that has made me wonder if the sensor is reading properly.
I thought I saw a post where someone did resistance reading on the sensor at various temps. Does anyone know where that thread is? ADV?
