  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New husky 511 smr owner

Ahhh. But why not try and get closer to the engine size of before? I havent looked at Hp ratings.. What are the stock 510 and 510 to compare?

Development costs I guess - old 510 had a longer stroke than 450 whilst 511 is just a bore increase compared to 449. The 478 kit already existed for BMW so there was no need to 'reinvent the wheel' to meet the needs of the new Husqvarna models.

Dave, do you have any ideas on what the power output is for the 511, mine feels very restrictive as soon as the power is coming in i run out of revs? Is this down to the bike being very restricted?

So I'm a little stressed. I just sold an Aprilia SXV550 which the entire world condemns for having a crappy maintenance schedule. Today I bought a 2011 SMR511 and upon first read through this forum it appears as though the maintenance schedule on my new 511 is WORSE than that of the SXV?

I wasn't expecting a DRZ but what I read in another thread here seems a little outrageous.

Where did you read that its that high maintenance? My 511 SMR is due its first service on saturday, its been fine so far, only trouble i can say i have had is the oil overflowing into the airbox but that's sorted now.(wern't really trouble to be honest), what have you heard then?

The maint schedule is different for the TC/TXC vs the SM/TE ... I dont have the detailed recommendation in front of me but will post this evening. It is someplace between change it everytime you ride it (CRF450) and change it when it gets gooey looking (DR). I dont know what Aprilia said... but typical street bike expectations (which I think the Aprilia falls into) are quite a bit different than typical high performance dirt bike expectations. In other words a crappy street bike schedule probably looks a lot like a normal modern 4 stroke dirt bike schedule.

There would be 2 maintenance schedules like the TE/TC has, one for "normal" use, the other for uncorked full on racing use. The latter being considerably shortened.

From here.

Could someone let me know if the SMR 511 has the same maintenance intervals as the TE? I'm assuming it would (oil & filter every 500km/10hrs, valve clearance every 1500km/30hrs, tear down the motor every 3500km/70hrs).

This is from a PDF of the 2011 TE/TXC 449/511
70h - 3500KM
Replace the following
valves
timing chain
spark plug
piston
crankshaft
crankcase bearings

Check the following
valve springs
valve spring retainers & collets
valve buckets and rocker arm
cylinder head
camshaft
timing chain slider
timing driven gear
timing drive gear
timing chain tensioner
oil pump
primary torque limiter
check some clutch stuff

This is way worse than an Aprilia if it is true.

And if you look at my post above with the link you will see that this isnt a correct list for Standard mode

The 70h bit appears to be from the MX/Racing schedule in the TE/TXC/TC manual. In normal use the TE/SMR's have a First 1000km, every 1000km, every 5000km and every 10000km schedule. My mate has lost his USB which has the more detailed schedule listed, but I'll kick him in the shins til he finds it.

Right, no doubt they assume if you are in race mode then you may be racing and ought to do race level maintenance.

I found this in my box of bits i got me husky.

Husqvarna Why has not done a full power on the street, because there is only a limited power on the street, then there is only a full power on the track use:excuseme:

By removing the limited power setting in some markets the bike is no longer street legal, also the warranty is goooorn from 1 year to 3 months, or possibly even no warranty. BVasically you can have one or the other, not a mix of both. If Husky made a full power road maintenance shedule it'd cause them alot of pain re. warranties etc.

Hi just joined this forum after reading you got a good deal on a Akraprovic for your 511. I just brought a 511 smr last week and the standard pipe looks nasty. Im down in Dorset any chance you could tell me where and how much the pipe cost. Thanks Charlie.

hi charlie, i brought the pipe with the bike, but i didn't install it till after the first service, dealer recommended this. Pipe price was £975, it was from the husky catalogue, did you buy your bike from a husky dealer? and too right standard pipe is fugly! ash
