  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

A Class
Hey guys! not sure if this is where to post but wanted to say hello and that I am the new owner of a new 2011 txc511. I plan on making this thing street legal and was leaning towards a Trailtech x2 and acerbis tail light. Any help or suggestions would be great! Also, is there any word as to whether or not there is any factory wiring for plug and play TE511/449 lights? Thanks !

do let us know. I have seen threads here from ppl turning their smr's into dirt and vice versa. I'm sure the info is in here somewhere.

Cool, I was hoping someone would respond! I sent an email to trailtech and they said that they will hook right up as well. However, I don't have any factory lighting so I am not sure what it's plugging into. As far as the DOT version goes, he also said it wasn't DOT approved but meets the standard. With that said I may just do HID and be careful where I run high beams.

I tried that and it did nothing but piss on coming traffic off and get me pulled over. Beam is WAY to wide and bright for street use. I suggested TT make the DOT light and they did and it is MUCH better for road use.

Is it cheaper or better to get a TXC vs. a TE and then putting a kit and plate on it compared to just getting a TE? What are the benefits of doing that? I'm new to Husky's.

It was "or will be" Cheaper for me to go that route for a few reasons. Mainly the only bikes left over that were 2011s were the TXCs. So with that said. There is about $1000 difference in retail price and it only takes about $400-500 to do a nice conversion on a NEW bike. The deal Husky has going on til March has about $2500 off retail on 2011s. The other benefit I saw here was that the bike is supposedly less restricted because it doesn't have the SMOG features. Luckily in CO you don't need that.

Sounds good. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I could always upgrade the high beam only to HID for off road use?

I just put the X2 on my 08 510 and I was a little disappointed with the lower mount. They Trail Tech uses rubber straps like the stock light assembly, but uses pins on the bottom. The instructions say to drill holes in the fender for the pins. That will work on fenders that don't have a brace, but not on mine.

I made a bracket out of .064 aluminum that sandwiches between the fender and lower TT. To allow adjustment I may change this to use velcro like one other rider suggested in another thread.

You can take the brace off and ruin the up pins or just wood screw the up pins tot he top of the brace, both ways works great. No issues.

I just found your post and ask the same question for a 449. I like the forks which are better than the TE's. Thats way I when with the TXC.

Aren't the forks the same? It is my understanding that everything is the same other than the emissions and lighting?

The fork are a closed camber the TE are the open ones. Both work great but I just have more time working with the closed ones.
