  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi,

Went for a ride a few weeks ago that was cut short by foul weather but gave me the opportunity to take a look at this:

It's a 2009 wr250. Worked out a deal with the PO that I couldn't walk away from, so now it's mine :)

Been busy with the family so I haven't gotten to ride it yet. Just popped off the pipe and took a look at the piston/cylinder and everything looks good. I just added the handguards and i'm planning on getting a hyde skid plate also.

The bike feels nice and tight, but I'm planning on inspecting/re-greasing all of the chassis bearings anyway.

Anyone have suggestions on what else to check?

The PO said the suspension was done by mxtech and the rear shock has been shortened by 75mm. Right now the forks are flush with the triples. If i'm going to keep the shock like that, should I raise the forks up a bit?

Thanks

I don't think your shock has been shortened that much. Maybe 7.5mm, but 75mm is 3" and it should look like a chopper with the forks flush to the top of the clamps.

Even with a 7.5mm shorter shock you should be running on the bottom fork groove or more.

Yeah, I meant .75 inches, so more like 20mm, thanks for noticing!

Okay, i'll try moving the forks up some.

Is there a place that lists year to year changes for the late model huskies?

Be cautious with the Hyde, I've heard they don't fit some models worth a darn... do a search

Will do, thanks for the heads-up.

I live right in front of the municipal building behind the church and ride a slightly modded 08 wr 250.Lets go ride. How well do you know these trails?

I've never been there but was just talking about going there.Just about everyone I ride with has been there.I wouldn't mind checking it out.I always hear crap about it being shut down, then it's open then closed again. We have a ton of nice single track down here so that's mainly why I've never made it.I use to go to Wellsville a lot several years ago.I've run the AWRCS race there the past few years.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it about being open/closed. Probably try it out in the spring. Want to try Wellsville again now that I've got a better bike for it, Husky!

Heh, we are close, I live off of Dorseyville by the cross keys. I know the trails pretty good, but don't get to ride as often as I like due to work and family. Can you ride in from your place? My other bike is plated and I usually ride that locally. I could haul it down, but that seems silly.

Do you guys ever go to Hillsville?
I haven't been there, but a friend goes there every once in a while. He says you need a plate to ride in because the close parking areas are patrolled.

I did a few of the awrcs races last season, i'm planning on doing more next year. I'm running in senior slow, what class do you run?

What and where are the cross keys? Yeah,I can ride right from my house.Unfortunately,I didn't race last season.I had been running the c class but will be running b this upcoming season,I can't wait! I just got back on the bike a couple of weeks ago.I'm heading out near the post-gazette pavillion sunday if you're interested.Right now there is 2-3 of us going.A lot of single track and some "riding in a general direction"(no trail).

Cross keys is the resturant on Doreseyville rd. I guess it's called Andora now. Yeah, i'm looking forward to next season too, especially with the new bike!

I may be able to get out sunday, what time are you leaving?
