  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st New Excel rims?

AA Class
I am looking to buy some new rims from Dennis Kirk, but they don't list any for the Husky. Would the KTM ones be the same???

My WR250 is a 2000, and came stock with Excel rims. Both front and rear rims have 36 spokes. The front is 21 x 1.60. The rear is 2.15 x 18.

Does anybody know?

I believe the spoke angle is different as are the rims. I think we have some husky specific excel's for that. Will check.

Just so you know, the rims that come on the Husky's are the Premium Excel and are propriatory to Husky only. No-one else uses this grade or quality.
Spoke hole,size,angle,offset are different.
Reason for the higher price, they are that good.

OK, thanks for the info guys. My stock Excel rims are fine, I just wanted to switch to black rims. Maybe I will have the stock ones powdercoated black...

have them anodized, it will last a lot longer.

Yes, if you are just looking for a color change check out TCR Wheel lacing. I've used them twice, good price, great quality and fast turn around.

What happens if I try to lace a KTM rim on my Husky hub?

You will need special order spokes.

What is different? When I hold my 1993 Honda CR rim next to my Husky, the holes in the rim look similar...

I don't much about bike wheels...

Rather than mess with the spokes and getting a setup that worked, I just bought a complete set of wheels from QTM.
Excel rims, Talon hubs, stainless steel spokes, Excel spline nipples.

Overall a much better wheel.

I had a set of wheels anodized black on a bike a number of years ago, they look nice at first but the rock's get after them let alone tire changes. You can touch them up with a marker for awhile buteven then they start looking shody.IMO I would just clean them up good and run them the way they are.

Thanks guys, but I really want black rims. All of my vehicles end up with black rims eventually. I'm even going to get my wifes car's wheel painted black as soon as she leaves for a couple days... ;)

I think that the dull, sand blasted silver looks worse than touched up black. Personal preference.

:oOK smart guys.... You talked me into having the rims anodized, now help me find a replacement spoke...

Hall's are $99 each but they are closed due to inventory purposes. I also want to see if you have to buy spokes as well?

Company in Wisconsin will do the old rims $90 set.
