  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I went to the shop yesterday to pickup a temperature sensor for my TE250 and got talking to the owner about a TXC310R he had on the floor. It was on for a very sweet deal. He offered me a good trade in for the 250 so a couple hours later I brought the 310R home. I am taking it out in an hour for the first ride. :)

Some pics:

Awesome bike! Walked into the dealer for a part and put with a new bike...perfect lol. You have to change the bikes owned section under your screen name now ;)

Man those bikes do look awesome. I been wanting to trade in my TE250 and get a TXC310R. Since those are off road only - you don't have to deal with all the smog crap and everything else that TE lineup brings.

I hope they are moddable to put headlights on and a small battery / stator.

As far as I know the TXC's are even wired for a headlight, just need to buy one for it

Thanks Guys!
I just got back from my first ride with the 310R and Holy crap! I was not expecting there to be this big of a difference!

It was a fairly slow technical ride to let things break in a bit. Right away I thought wow this things got a lot of grunt, but after an hour of riding it really started to loosen up and rev a lot free'er and faster, thats when I really started to feel how much more power this bike had. It's soo much stronger than the TE250. The TE250 liked to ridden higher in the rev range so I was shifting it a lot. I caught myself shifting the 310R too much. It lugs quite good and definitely needs to be ridden differently than the TE250.

The power is razor sharp, immediately there when you twist the throttle. With the TE250 It would hesitate sometimes or you would twist the throttle and it would be flat and youd have to shift down. With the 310R it doesnt seem to matter what gear you are in, just twist and hold on. I understand there are more powerful bikes than this but holy crap this is way more than I was expecting and I dont see myself ever wanting more. I also found that because of the sharp power, it was helpful to lug the 310R so it wouldnt get so feisty if you accidentally snapped the throttle due to a bad bump or something.

I remember commenting about the map settings button on the TE250 and saying I felt it was useless because the bikes power was very manageable and I never used it. I found myself wishing there was a softer power delivery setting on this 310R today. It was wet and slippery in the woods and I found myself in a few situations where I accidentally snapped the throttle due to the trail being rough (also firmer suspension) and things got a little out of line.

The suspension is quite different, obviously it's firmer and that makes you work harder in the slow technical stuff. I am not a bad rider but not a pro by any means so I found the slower technical stuff quite exhausting, I was a lot faster in these sections on the TE250 so I found this bike quite demanding at times. I am going to play with the clickers a bit and see if I can smoothen it out some as i ride rocky technical similar to river bed type stuff frequently.

Overall I am blown away with the difference in power and throttle response. I feel like I have some growing to do on this bike before it feels 'just right' and certainly if you are not in shape this bike is quick to point that out haha.

LOM is right there is a plug in for a headlight. At first I didn't know why that was there, but now that you say it...

Cant wait to get it out again!

Congrats Ty. Before you mess with the suspension, i would wait until you have ridden it and the suspension has had a chance to break in. When I first got mine, the suspension was stiff and more like an MXer. After having it broken in now, the suspension has loosed up quite a bit. So much in fact that I need to stiffen it back up. I have a feeling i'll be sending it in to get the suspension done for my weight and riding style.

Glad to hear that. It seems your experience with the TE250 has been very similar to mine. Now if I can only convince the wife to add one more bike to the growing stable...

That's really cool. I've ridden a 12txc250 and 12txc310 and the power difference really is amazing. The 310 really let's you slide if you suck at shift points like I do lol. Glad you're enjoying it, now if I could only get my hands on a 2013 to compare them :).

Thanks for the advice. I will wait it out for a bit and see if things change. If they soften a bit I will be very happy :)

I have heard from quite a few that have those same issues. I was getting pretty frustrated with mine at times. I ordered a JD Tuner and 12 port injector from Halls a week ago, should be here any day now, but no need for that anymore so I guess I will have to sell it. Haha, I hear ya, I called the wife to let her know about the deal I was offered and she told me I should buy it. SOLD! ;)

Very true. I did find the 310 seemed easier to ride through tough stuff like finding a path through the woods around a massive waterhole I came across yesterday. It chugged through the brush really nicely where with the 250 I would be riding the clutch quite a bit so not to stall it.
