  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New Battery "fixes" my E-start on 2010 TE250

So.... I was just about to rip all the E-start stuff off my 10 TE250 and just kick it after all the drama I had with it. You know the drill.... It would E-start fine when cold but not when hot. I had been through 1 starter under warranty, 2 sprags and two ring gears when they froze together under the flywheel and I since swapped back in the original ring gear that was "supposed" to be no good as it was from a "Bad lot". I also had trouble when I re-shimmed the exhaust valve under the decompressor. I was pretty much done with it this time. Who could blame me?

I took off the mag cover and expected to see a worn ring gear like all the ones I saw in the pics.
Lo and behold, it looked perfect.....hmmmm. This was supposed to be a bad gear.
Just for the heck of it, i swapped out the 5yr old TurnTech battery for the Earth -X in my 310 and added Joe's heavy duty starter lead.

I've ridden it twice and it now starts lickety split cold or hot.

Yeah Baby!

Good news. I had an interesting moment with the Earth-X battery on my Husky. I'd never fully charged it and after a month in the garage it not only wouldn't start, but wouldn't take a charge with either a Battery Tender unit or the Optima. So I READ the FAQ and they said you have to trick the charger by putting more than 9 volts across the battery terminal (I did this via jumpers from another Earth-X battery in my Beta 350. After about 30 seconds of both the charger and the extra battery hooked up I removed the jumper and re-connected the charger and everything proceeded normally. It has a protective circuit that only a few charging units can overcome. All in the FAQ stuff.
