• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi. I put a down payment on a 2011 te630 with 1200 miles on it this saturday. :) Looking forward to picking it up soon, possibly this coming saturday. This fellar right here:

Thought I might ask if there is a new owners thread sticky'ed somewhere or a website with common issues and the like. Kickstand, something about the pegs and the airbox... cant recall what else I have read at the moment. Ha. What is the efi power up kit majigger called? I would like to get the dealer to do that before I go pick it up.

Congrats!
There are a couple threads here on kickstand tweaks to get the bike more upright (TE, SMS doesn't have that problem...)
Pegs should be fine unless you do a lot of jumping or you weight 400lb... If either is true, just replace the bolts with some high-grade hardened bolts.
Airbox. If it hasn't been done already, pull the lid and filter and remove the plate/restrictor/labyrinth thingy and chuck it in the trash, then buy a more open exhaust when you get the funds. Make sure not to over-tighten the airbox screws, since the molded-in nuts that they thread into can spin in the airbox if you're not careful. You can also remove the snorkel thing from the airbox lid and punch a few more 1"-1.5" holes in the same area to open up the inlet a bit, unless you plan on doing some water crossings. If you do plan on seeing some water but still want to open up the airbox, get a EHS Prefilter and put in the lid to let air in and keep water out.
The tuner is from JD Jetting. Get the PowerUp kit if it hasn't been done and get the dealer to do a base tune with I-beat if possible. If nothing else, zero the throttle position sensor. Then get the JD Jetting tuner and find the best settings for your setup, starting conservatively. There are several threads on the JD unit here as well.

Just looked at the pics from the link, good news if that is the actual bike you bought, it's already got the PowerUp kit. See the brass plug in the top of the exhaust in front of the shock resevoir? That's where the stock lambda sensor goes. It gets removed when they do the PowerUp.

The bad news is, that bike probably sold for less than that new... :excuseme:

the price: Yea. I know. Assuming he got it during the whole mark down thing and not before? I dunno. Either way I am happy to just have found one. Also am getting it for 7k flat. I was actually going to buy the other one they had but the guy changed his mind... Which sucks cuz I was even considering buying both of them. (other one had a few modifications done to it and less miles)

brass plug/power kit: I will ask the dealer to make sure the power up has been done and he is not just missing the sensor by some other means :P I don't see ti myself in the pics but I will take your word for it.

The other thing to check for on the power up kit is a resistor jumper plugged into the wiring harness where the O2 sensor used to go. If you have that and the exhaust plug, you're golden.

I would think it would run like absolute crap if you removed the O2 sensor without putting in the jumper... :p

ok. cool.

is there a way to keep the light housing and improve my vision? I am not a fan of the way the trailtech options look and the stock lines on this bike are just... beautiful. I might try to just cram in a HID unit into the stock housing like I did on my ktm adventure. Is that a good idea or no for some reason i am not forseeing?

also how is the stator on these things? can i run heated grips and a gps without killing my battery?

They have a good charging system (365watts?).

The stock headlight is outstanding once adjusted correctly (and I'm used to megalights on a Goldwing). Mine was aimed at the sky when I got it. Take the headlight shroud off and drive out on a straight/deserted street after dark to adjust. May have to adjust the 10mm pivot point bolts on the sides and fine tune w/ the 8mm over the headlight.

.

also if u ever notice a gas leak in the front end of the bike its coming from the fuel pump gasket not overlly common but if it does happen thats where its from

noted. thank you.

another question from the newb: who makes a good skid plate for these things? are engine guards available anywhere?

Uptite is a very popular choice of skid plate. Beefy and nice looking to boot. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Are you trying to keep the rocks off your motor or are you trying to keep your motor off of the rocks?

Are you trying to keep the rocks off your motor or are you trying to keep your motor off of the rocks?

The reason I ask is because the aluminum ones like the Uptite and Husky are beefy and chunky, while plastic ones like the Hyde do fine at keeping the motor plenty safe from most things, aside from slamming sideways into boulders...

Congrats on the TE 630. I recommend the UpTite skid plate, bullet proof. Upgrade your foot peg and sub frame bolts, and loctite them. Loctite the sprocket bolts! Open up your air box, put a 14t cs sprocket on and get a FMF Powercore 4 pipe on that thing. The stock cans are hot, heavy and 14lbs heavier then the FMF. Oh yea, and keep an eye on the stock DID chain. Both of our TE 630's stock chains lost an o-ring in different spots. They then got a sticky link and started grooving the side of the rear sprockets. Luckily hers was the master link and was an easy fix. Mine wasn't.
