  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

my mate is looking to buy a new husky 250 4T that is 2009 or newer and is willing to spend up to $5500 for one. he is an everyday trail rider that does the odd enduro race here and there, he wants to know whether to buy a TE, TC or TXC and what year model gives best value for money

A 2009 is based on the older big-block Italian motor, the 2010 and later 250 is based on the xlite platform, smaller, lighter motor, different design.

He can also look at the 2009 and 2010 310cc models if he wants to stay with the older design.

thanks, I dont think he will want a 310 because he is a small bloke and a 310 might b a bit intense considering he isn't to confident on a bigger bore bike, but he has looked at the 2010 and 2011 models and they might be the best...what do u think of the 2010-2011?

I can't comment on the xlite platform as I have no experience with it.

The 310 isn't too intimidating. It doesn't have the scary low end torque hit of the bigger block engines that can make you loose control, that is unless you let it rev..

ok, because I thought the 310 would be around the same bottom end of my te450, maybe I will look into a 310 for him then, but are they around the same as the 250's? because he is willing to spend up to $6000 for a te250...

A 250 is the way to go because it has the same mid to high performance and will fit 125/250 classes. 310 and 250 has well enough power to race even with the bigger bikes tho, especially in enduro like Juha Salminen has proven. I have never ran out of power with my skills, even on the steepest and softest hill the bike will roar upwards at very low rpms and once you hit the straight it's all about how fast you can shuffle the gears.

That price tag is sort of high for a 2010 or 2011 bike, there is much fluctuation on the prices so lucky hunting. I recommend never buy bikes that have been recently repaired by 'unauthorized' personnel and have not yet proven their longevity or that have been raced alot without tight maintenance.

I bought a 2010 TE 250 - while it's a great bike, I was soon wanting a 310 for more power. It's always nice to have extra power to grow into.

As for TE, TXC, or TC models -- I think if they are purely trail riders - they'd be better off getting TXC or TC models because the TE models are restricted to meet emissions standards. So you will often have to alter them in one or many ways to get the true dirt bike 250 power feeling. They are great bikes regardless. I'm not too familar with the TXC or TC models.
