  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc New 2014 WR300.

So when you guys rock the bike back and forth your not getting the piston to actually cycle through right?? Your just getting it to bump a little each way right?

I also run the exp and bought a righteous stunt metal XL easy pull lever and the old yz clutch arm extension and it pulls like a stock 300 clutch now just FYI.

Yeah its just bumping it up and down. Rock it just enough to feel the crank rotate over a little bit. And yeah not enough to really do a cycle. I was at Dual sport a couple years ago and it was chilly that morning. I unloaded my bike and tried to start it. I bet I kicked it 20 times and nothing. Guy parked next to me told me to do this method of rocking. I did it and first kick it fired right up. It must put a little fuel in to the top of the cylinder and lights right up. dont over due it though I guess too much and you could foul plug.

When you rock the bike back and forth with it in gear it primes the cylinder with fuelbecause you are creating a vacum with rocking. Been doing this for years and it works great with any bike.

I don't think this would work on bike with auto clutch. Unless oil is so cold that it creates drag.

Chums,
Can you pls share links or part numbers to clutch arm extension and easy pull lever?

With a Lectron carb starting is a 2 kick affair in the winter 1 kick in the summer.

I have an '09, I was never able to get it started with the stock Mikuni, kicked it, rolled it down the mountain, towed it, nothing worked. Ordered the Mikuni and it's been a consistent 1 to 2 kick starter. Installed the hi-comp head which gives it even more torque but since I can't find any race fuel or VP in Cali I may have to take it back off
I use Ford ATF in the tranny, 100 hours no issues.
If you get a chance put a 360 six speed in it best upgrade you' ll ever do.
Keep an eye on the rear brake fluid, mine ended up with water in it (that muddy Eastern riding I guess) master cylinder is trashed, new seals don't even fix it

Jerbear, I'm over in Tracy, shoot me a pm

Enlighten me on this High Compression Race Head you guys have. How much does it cost and where do you get it from ? I can get racing gas five minutes
from my house. Do the 300's run better on racing gas ? Another question: How many hours til the motor is "broken in". I've got approx six hours taking it pretty
mellow. I've got the JD Jet kit, Cycra Handguards to be installed over the weekend. Put my Enduro Engineering Skid Plate on last night so I'm ready to have some
fun.
Hey Rob, you're in Tracy ? Must be nice to have Carnegie to ride in your back yard. I travel through Tracy whenever I go there, obviously. Maybe you'd like
to join me next time ? Do you have the 360 six speed in yours and how does it differ ? I've only got two rides on mine but I'm actually thinking about lowering the gearing a little. One other thing I've noticed is the suspension is pretty stiff. I haven't done anything to it yet. I'm going to work on it this weekend just getting it set for my weight with sag etc..... Thanks again to all for the help and advice.

I don't know if you can find a race head anymore. You'll have to call a Husky dealer. If you can't find one you can send your head to RB Designs. It made a big difference on mine.

I think a race head would be fun out there in Cali but over here in the woods of PA, I think the race head would be overkill. My 300 ran great on pump gas but Ive recently switched to 100 octane AvGas.

Yeah, it was more of a curiosity question. The bike has got plenty of power and any mods that I will look into later on would be for more torque/low end
which is what he said it gives. Has anyone put on the FMF "Gnarly Torque" pipe and is that what you get from it ?

"I think a race head would be fun out there in Cali " I have a feeling that when a lot of people back east think of California, they think of Southern Cal and wide
open desert, which is a great place to ride dirt bikes, NorCal is a little different. I mainly ride in woods, like you, but there's a bit of everything here north and south.
I got this bike for stuff like this.......The 511 does good for a big bore ds but the 300 should be ideal.

I see what you mean after watching that vid about overkill. That looks pretty tight. Rarely get out of second gear, I would guess.

My 2010 Wr 300 motor is bone stock Except for CR electronics a stock carb off a 2006 Wr 250 and a FMF pipe. I run straight 110 race gas at about40 to 1 . I even run stock gearing everywhere I race The bike will run the # 1 plate in 2014

I just found a complet CR set up NEW still in the BOX along with a FBF Dual timming set up also new in the box

Thanks to Andy Jefferson and Jeff Hall It was still in the warehouse I asked and they found one Thanks guys

The race head proves it's worth on those really steep 1st gear switchbacks like you find at Hatfield McKoy, lug it down to like 5rpm then rip. Looking back I think a better option would be to send the stock head to RB
I have mine jetted for VP and Motul @50:1 if I'm going to run pump gas I need to richen it up. It detonates in the mid range under load.
The 360 six speed turns it into a completely different bike 1st seems a little lower 2nd and 3rd about the same 4th and 5th a little higher and wider but 6th is a crazy overdrive, I don't even shift to 6th until I'm doing about 65mph. If you can manage a tag it makes a fantastic bike for the AMA dual sport rides
