  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Pro Class
I've been wanting a dedicated woods bike for quite a while and admittedely was watching
craig's list religiously for a KTM300 til I finally came to my senses and realized that I could
buy a brand new WR300 for what some of these KTM owners are asking for their five or seven
year old 300XC's or XCW. So I'm am now the proud new owner of a 2014 WR300. First two-stroker
I've had since my YZ125 back in high school.
Not an easy bike to kick start. Will probably take her up to Georgetown tomorrow for it's first
ride.

Did you get the one here in the classifieds? I would of, it was a steal. If you get a lectron it's a one or two kick start everytime.

OK, "not easy" as in hard to kick. Keep in mind that it's brand spankin' new and new to me. It wasn't easy. I've been spoiled
with the button for the past 20 yrs. Not knockin' it, just expressing my first experience and that was "hard to kick".
Another question of the "newbie" type, I started it up and kept it going for a few minutes and adjusted the idle screw a bit. Took it
for a little spin around the block when it died as if it ran out of gas. The gas was on so I don't know. I just don't want to get up to GT
tomorrow and have to go through this all day. Not worried about it long term as I know it takes time to get a new bike sorted out but
I'm sure it's something simple so any help would be very cool.

Brand new 2014 models (and earlier perhaps) are jetted very lean. Adjust needle to bottom most clip position and buy a 92-01 Honda CR250 gasket to fit between reed block and carburetor boot. RTV sealant works too. I put a JD jet kit in mine. Runs better and doesn't die. Double check your air screw too.

I lay my bike over till the gas runs from the overflow tubes for a few sec ( fills up the float bowls ). Fires First or second kick always!!!

I also stand on the peg with it on the kick stand to get a better kick. ( my orange riding buddy think this is bazaar, they'll break they kick stand if they do it.)

The huskies kickers is a litter more front to back , not like the jap, bike top to bottom , took a little getting used to.

I used a jd jetting kit like shrub and now my bike starts fine. Before that I was pulling my hair out. I also use the Honda gasket. Awesome bike.

Since we are close you can ride yours with the stock carb for a while . then come ride mine with the Lectron before you decide to spend any money. I also have a lot of needles and brass you could try.

get that pipe covered asap. The metal is made of low grade cheddar cheeze like material. cool bike

Thats exactly how BMP Bill showed me to start my 02 CR250. That bike cranked AOK but you had to kick it. No stand on that one but my 08 WR250 stand is very sturdy and I use it like that from time to time.

I ride a 250 WR250 and I could see where it might be thought of as a hard starter, EXCEPT, this rider knows 2 things about kicking it over.

1) Kick it like you mean it ... This ain't your daddys 4t machine. And I always give it plenty of throttle twist along with that kick. And its starts 1-3 almost always. One good kick is all it really needs.

2) If the kicker is sort of stuck in vertical kicking position, change the angle that your boot contacts the kicker to more of a push-backwards angle on the kicker. Then push the kicker in more of a backwards motion towards the back tire to kick the bike over ..

What are the stock pipes like on those bikes? Just too bad to even consider using?

When you say 2014 model, I take it you mean a new 2013 model, because as we all know the 2014 model is a KTM/Husaberg hybrid. It looks gorgeous, one other thing I would do if I was you, first time you have the fuel tank off, spray a load of corrosion inhibitter up inside the main frame tube, i found a lot of rust inside mine in no time. Go ride.

Actually, there are 2014 Italian Huskies and also 2014 Austrian Huskies.

Sorry to go off topic guys, but this is news to me. Who are they made by? and where? I thought Husqvarna had been bought by the owners of KTM. You mean there are new 2014 husqvarna models in production in two separate places in Europe !!

I will take you up on that. We definitely have to hook for some rides.
I went up to Georgetown yesterday for my first ride. This bike has got power ! No doubt about it. Even when you're not on the pipe it lugs. Great motor.
I had to keep it revving, however, because it wouldn't stay idling.
My first priority is getting a skid plate. Any suggestions would cool. Also, I ran the first tank at 32 to 1 as per the manual break in procedure using Maxima Super M.
Seemed a little thick but that's what it says.
Crokus and Eagle, you're both right. It's basically a 2013 model that was able to be called a 2014 because of when it was produced or something.

My 300 was a balky starter until I put the JD kit in the stock Mikuni. I rode it for the first time yesterday with this modification, and the bike is like a new bike....better than new! One to three kicks every time, and no kick back, that wonderful WR punch off the bottom and smooth, clean power all the way up. Best investment for carburetion that I can think of.
