  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New 2013 te449 or used 2011 te511 w 450 miles

The 511 has fmf exhaust, tuner, bash plate, rack, seat, disc guards (about $1000 in acess.) both bikes about same price.

I will be riding at 6,000 to 8,000 feet

Any thoughts appreciated

Its kind of a coin toss. The bikes are essentially the same power wise. So its just a matter of do you want a new bike or a used bike

There's alot here on those bikes ... All I know is that 511 is only a few CCs more than 449 bike ... Its more like a 475cc bike.

IF they will let you, test ride both. It's a great way to get the right one for you. The 511 has basic mods that many of the members here have tested and approved of.

However, it's possible that the 511 may have a locked ECU. Seems a hit or miss issue on the 2011 bikes, one of which is happily owned by yours truly. It only means that you can't change the maps burned into the memory. If they are a good dealer they should be able to tell you if it falls in that category.

It surely isn't a deal breaker unless the tuner isn't up to the task. Which one does it have BTW?

There was a frame update on 2012 including shorter seat height and other very minor changes after that. Otherwise they are like fraternal twins. The later bikes seem to have wildly different performance from bike to bike. Some run like a gem, others seem to bring much frustration took their owners.

Just things to consider. But if they both run good, then you can't miss.

Yeah, its a wash, both good bikes, buy the one that seems like the better deal to you. I'd be temped to try and talk them down on the 511.

Stronger frame, better geometry (lowered shock),one piece tail, better wheels, and better electrical on the 2013- I'd go that route. Fix it up as you go. just my .02
I have a 2013 TE-511, and a 2011 TXC-511 (with Akropovic pipe & JD power tuner). My 2013 has yet to give me adequate service, despite sending the ECU to Zipty, getting a PC-V, putting on a FMF pipe, and even having the entire top end rebuilt. Still flames out, stalls, and doesn't run as well, or as fast as the 2011 TXC. Also have a 2011 TC-449, which runs like a scalded jack-a-lope.
Theres my 3 cents worth.

That's a bummer, I haven't heard of that many issues (new top end??) on a 13 TE511 (and I work on them all day). I think it's a lemon and you should sell it to me. :)

If I hadn't felt the 449/511 magic with my other 2 bikes, I likely would have already sold that bike and permanently walked away from the brand in utter disgust. But I know that there should be a decent running engine lurking somewhere within. So far I just haven't found the person who can get it to remain running once it gets hot. I never had a motor so un-inclined to run correctly, no matter how much effort is thrown at it.
Still waiting to see some lemonade come out of this one. At present, it has been at the local Husky dealer for 11 weeks, and they are still trying to make it run right.

Ive felt the magic !!, '11 511 and 449, both TXC and they both ran strong....the 511 even moreso. I still say the CTS is the best part and it makes every other bike feel a little bit off ....

For some reason I keep noticing TC449s every time I wander into craigslist :excuseme: ;)

I'd buy the 511 and send us the suspension and the ecu. The rear shock will need to be lowered 4mm to match the 2012-14's.

One of the upgrades from 2011 to 2012 was shortening of the rear shock. We consulted Husqvarna to do so in order to stabilize the 449. We also made a longer upper suspension link which was also added to the 2012-14 models.

Tinken.
What is the advantage in the lower shock?
Always been curious & mine is due for service...

Supposed to make the bike handle better. Zipty lowered mine but also revalved and maybe resprung (actually don't know). Bike is drastically improved. Way more control where it got sloppy in the fast stuff stock. The rear is simply magic, one of the best I have sampled. Everyone who rides it is like WOW
