  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New 2013 Husqvarna TE 310 R: Yea or Nay for Dual Sport?

Is the 511 clutch different from the 310? Compared to other bikes I have ridden it has the softest and smoothdst clutch pull action I have used. I couldnt imagine less clutch pull.

completely different clutch. Clutch pull is nice stock, way better with the lever and a much wider engagement throw so much EZer to modulate when slipping it.

310 clutch is a traditional multi spring, floating plate clutch. The 449/511 clutch is a state of the art DDS clutch similar to the image below.

Gotta love Jack!

My mechanical engineer buddy will give succinct answers. I rarely come back with a second question once he has responded. I appreciate that. :)

I totally agree. I have a German friend over here that everyone says is rude but he actually is just a straight talker. I hate having to read between the lines!

I almost went with a autoclutch for my 511. Went for a MME clutch lever instead. The difference was so great i no longer am doing the autoclutch. So if you just need EZer control I highly recommend this lever. Tinken says ARC makes one like this too. The difference is very noticeable and make my 511 far EZer to handle int he tight stuff. Kinda shocked how much difference it makes actually.

Third one down in the pic.

They look like these, cost the same as MME's. They bend both ways and both the aluminum and the composite levers are guaranteed for life.

Does not seem like from reading that that it changes the ratio which is the big deal on the MME lever.

It does lighten the pull, first thing Danny and I tested when installing them onto my 511.

OK boys, friendly rivalry. I appreciate civil, factually based, debate. If not interested, run for Congress.
Just for fun:
Tinken, in other posts, has firm opinions re fuel additives. With marginal scientific support.
Motosportz, in other posts, offers brake disc guards for sale. But photos of all Dakar bikes I have seen have none.
So I am toying with you. Both of you are dedicated, offer thoughtful informed observations, have lots of experience, and I value your observations, since I am late to the game.
Play with this as you will.

Hey TE310r owners, what is your experience getting parts now that Husqvarna is part of KTM? I am on the fence about getting a TE310r, and part availability is the biggest concern. I don't mind ordering parts online as long as the are generally available and they are delivered in a week or so. Thanks.

I just red Tinken's response that the valves on the R version are pretty poor. Would I be better off buying the TE310 non-R? Yet, I have read that the fuel injection and other stuff is better on the R.

Tinken- And how is parts availability these days?
Parts in general seem to be getting better now. It will be hard to get special parts from them but for general maintenance you should be good to go. Odds seem to be that your local dealer won't have much but our site sponsors do (Bills Motorcycles Plus and Hall's). BMP also just picked up GasGas which just happened to buy Husky's old 250/310 motor. That means you will more than likely be able to buy parts through them also. The 250/310 is supposed to be in GasGas in 2015 but who knows. I recommend you get one while you can. It's an amazing bike and if anything were to go wrong, you saved more then enough to pay Zip-Ty to not only fix it, but make it better.
