  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

new 2012 TE310 questions

Just picked it up :applause: . Dealer claims he did the pwoer up option but it has the restricted air cage in there. I need the open air cage inside the filter correct? He did remove the O2 sensor and jumped the wire ( i do see a connector with black heatshrink under the tank, I assume this is the jumper, right)

I only received a 40 tooth rear sprocket. Do the 2012's also get a longer chain and 50 tooth? I am getting mixed signals on this.

I beleive my throttle limiter is removed, but how do I veryify this? I removed the black cover over the throttle cable assembly, but I do not know what the original throttle limiter plate looks like to see if it is gone. Can I tell by monitoring the RPMS on the tach in nuetral?

Congrats!

Not sure about the O2 jumper. My 2012 TE 250 came with the 50 tooth and longer chain. As for the throttle limiter, undo the black cover - you should _not_ see the bronze/greeny looking plate, just the silver throttle plate on its own. Am sure I've seen a post on here with pics about that.

I had problems getting my dealer to do the power up too, I guess some of the dealers don't know how or just don't want to do this??? I ended up having to talk to someone from Husky corporate, and driving 3 hours to another dealer. Sounds like they did not do it for you. You should have an open air cage (you can see what it looks like in the owners manual photo showing TC, TXC models) A blue button for the second map for muddy conditions should be on your bars, spark screen removed and replaced with silencer insert (though I had to switch this back due to DNR regulations, still passed sound check) there was some other stuff too, but the most important is the 50 tooth sprocket and chain, makes a HUGE difference. I was burning up my clutch trying to ride tight trails with the 40. though road speed is limited to under 50 mph. which doesn't bother me, but something you may want to consider. To check throttle stop, follow cables down to throttle cover (on right side of bike, says "Minuki" on it, opens with one allen bolt) there will be a little metal plate held in by two screws. It prevents full rotation, twist your throttle (engine off) and it will be obvious. Removing it looks simple, but the screws are in with locktite and this job was a real pain. ended up ruining the head on one of the screws and having to drill it out.

That throttle stop screw is a Japanese style Phillips...not that it will be easy with the correct driver. Loctite on re-assembly

I don't think I could get more than about 6500 in 6th gear with it choked up

When you start the bike, does it say Race Map on the display? If so, the jumper's installed. YOu need the de-restricted air filter cage. Your dealer did the power up, but not all the steps.

AFAIK, the '12 models do not come with the longer chain and 50t sprocket like the '11 models did.

MNB is correct, only a few of the first 2012s had the kit with them, I got lucky and it was in my crate. Everyone they got after that was without the kit.

Make sure they split the exhaust and removed the catalyst also.

Yes, I see the race map 1 and 2 option when the bike is running. Does theEFI tuning(mapping) need to be redone at the dealer afterI put in the correct air filter cage? He said I have free mapping for life at his place. I found this procedure on line for the 2011 power up:
http://www.dualsportbc.com/photogallery/data/906/1Full_power_instructions_TE-TXC_250-310.pdf
This is for a 2011, but my 2012 exhaust is a bit different. I do not have the peice in Step 6 of this procedure and my exhaust looks a bit different than in step 4. Since mine is a 2012, do I have to remove the catalyst restrictor in the exhaust like in the 2011 models? I assume the throttle limiter is in place in this photos as well, correct? Anyone have any actual procedure with pics for the 2012 TE310?

You guys are very helpful and I will return the favor on this forum, since I am mehcanically inclined and handy with bikes. My riding is pretty lame though coming off a DR350s(too heavy)

dbkiller.jpgexhaust.jpg

here are some hopefully helpful photos. the top one is the 2012 "db killer" that came with the 2012 powerup kit, instead of what is shown in #6 of the download, by the way this is the same file a guy at husky corporate sent me a month ago, so I don't think there is a updated one for 2012. I ended up putting the stock part back in since it had a spark screen (required for DNR trails here) the bike still passed sound check no problem. but was a bit quieter with the new part. Anyway you can see what it looks like.

the second photo is what was removed from the exhaust, not sure what it is or exactly where it came from. I had this done at a dealer and got back all the parts they took off.

yes, in photo #1 in the pdf file, the plate that needs to come off is there, stamped "26" in the photo.

I have a 2012 TE250, but I think everything but the engine is the same for the 310

That 2nd photo is the catalyst insert, that's platinum inside. Take it to the local scrap yard and they will probably pay enough to get a six pack to finish the power up project!!

Thanks for the pics and info! I will remove the exhaust and see if the catalyst is in there. I definitley do do not have the db killer (mounts to very end of muffler right?). I have one that is fairly open with a mesh screen on the end. I guess this is safer to prevent sparks?

well I looked inside and there is nothing inside where header pipe and muffler pipes meet (where springs are). I guess the dealer did remove the catalyst. I did notice that there was no gasket where the header pipe attaches to the cylinder head. Item #17 on page 128 of the 2012 TE310 spare parts catalog. There should be a metal type crush gasket in there, right?

Gasket, yes. Crush, no. I know because I bent my mounting flange pretty good.
