Need to re-moss after de Restriction?

G'day all, finally got my bike derestricted today after waiting weeks for the bracket. Despite me requesting when I booked that the re-moss the bike, I arrived to find out they hadn't done it. They reckon there instructions from Husqvarna say nothing about mossing it.

I also noticed when riding home that the bike wasn't as smooth from idle up through the revs, it seemed more off/on when accelerating instead of being a smooth transition. I didn't think the extra horsepower was very noticeable either?

I wanted the moss done anyway, to see if it made a difference to my ongoing stumbling issues, but if there is any information out there about the de restriction process I could use it as ammo to get it mossed for free. Cheers, Scott.

Local dealer told me the same BS after I had mine derestricted. It's BS. The previous distributor has informed the dealership, who is now not a dealer as he is too close to the local KTM shop, which had changed the throttle bracket that resetting the ECU was not necessary and the present distributors couldn't give a rodents bottom.

The local BMW dealer confirmed the fuel mapping had to be updated and would have done it if they had access to the Husqvarna codes.
Tried to arrange it through a local Husky dealer who has a good reputation. They were reluctant to do it and informed me it was not necessary unless there was an error code. I had the distinct impression they did not want to use the MOSS equipment.
Went through the MOSS sticky thread and contacted the Husky dealer at Emu Plains in Sydney who confirmed the ECU needed remapping and were happy to do it for $120.00au. They had done it a few days previous on a Terra. They started the MOSS gear at 8.30am for it to be ready for me at 10.00am which may explain the reluctance of the local dealer to assist.
The difference after the MOSS was I had to back off at 5,000rpm in first as the front whee was leaving the ground which had never happened before.

Scott, sorry to hear about your ongoing poor service from the dealer. My dealer in Perth was very helpful and MOSSed the bike after first service and again offered to at 10,000 service for no charge! It does take over an hour, but your bike will run heaps better. I'd push for the MOSS and at no charge! Best of luck, they really are a great bike when running well!

There is a special bracket installed on restricted TRs, that prevent the throttle from opening completely, thus restricting the max power it is capable of. This bracket is bolted to the throttle body using security torx and is very inconveniently located. The de-restriction bracket would normally be a controlled item in areas that have restriction requirements.

It is my understanding that although the TR may not actually require re-mossing after de-restricting it, the idle air mechanism does need to be recalibrated for the added throw of the throttle. CH member Quirky hypothesized his problems may have been at least partially due to not recalibrating the mechanism after de-restriction on his bike. I do not believe there is any evidence that the fuel map is actually changed between restricted or de-restricted bikes.

It's pretty much Australia-only, as the local laws allow Learner-bikes on a power-to-weight ratio system and many bikes in the 300-650cc class are at around those figures, so the importers try to release one bike in 2 versions, the L and unrestricted. In most cases the restrictions are achieved by simple means like a device to block the throttle or bungs/ reducers in the intake/ exhaust systems etc....and are often reversible to de-restrict the bike after the L/P period of the owner.

My dealer told me that they turned the MOSS on so infrequently that it often spent a long time downloading new updates when they fired it up. If you're going to take your bike in especially for the MOSS at a dealer who doesn't often use their MOSS, it might be worthwhile ringing them the day before and reminding them to turn on the MOSS and download any updates which might be waiting, and leaving it on overnight so it's ready to go the next day.

My dealer told me restricted bikes TPS only operates between 0-70% at WOT with a butterfly that does not fully open. The TPS will require resetting to give the engine 100% (unrestricted, max fuel) to benefit from an increased butterfly opening.

Well I still haven't had time to get to the dealer. Not sure it's worth it if the moss tool doesn't work anymore? Will resetting the ecu recalibrate the TPS or is it done manually?

Mine's been hooked up to the computer a few times since the changeover. I think it's a dealer issue rather than a connectivity issue. From memory, my replacement dash needed computer hookup to function & that was only done a little while ago.

It feels like an on off switch rather than a gradual power on/off of power when going through the gears, accelerating or decelerating. I adjusted the throttle setting near the handlebars, but that didn't help. Didn't have this problem before the derestriction. Any ideas out there?

I put in the Brisk AR10ZS plugs which helped a lot. You might look at your idle air control valve cleanliness.

Already running Brisks. They were a great improvement. I will give the idle air control valve a clean when I have the time. Is it easy to remove the airbox to access it? I'm still running the stock airbox/filter. But as I said, it didn't start doing this until the de restriction. It wasn't a gradual thing as it would be if it was a dirty idle air control valve.

Who is the Dealer in EMU plains? How awesome would that be - Trooper Lu sold me my Terra, supposedly De-restricted, but wasn't, they ultimately lost the Paul Feeney Husky dealership fpr poor customer service

They have a small shop, but the workshop out the back is reasonably large, seemed very enthusiastic and earnest. (have to be to put up with what's happening to the brand)
Don't recall seeing anything else on the (small) floor but Huskys.
Worth the 400 klicks round trip from Newcastle I thought.
