    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Need some advice before I purchase

Looking at a used 2003 te610 that is out of state. Owner states if you stall bike you have to put bike in neutral to restart it due to safety type switch.Also that neutral is hard to find at times. I thought that by 2003 all bikes could be restarted in gear with clutch in.Is there some kind of switch on this similar to a kick stand down safety found on bikes or is this a sign of other issues to look for,or just a simple cluch adjustment or something ?? Have not seen bike in person as it is out of state and have not ridden a Husky so have nothing to compare it to. Owner states it runs fine. About to purchase so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My 2009 610SM will start in gear with the clutch lever pulled in.
There is a cut out switch connected to the clutch for this, Think it can be disabled by closing the circuit.
Not so sure about the older ones but I'm sure someone else might be able to help you.

Neutral is hard to find on all the bikes, bit of a non issue really.
There's a knack to finding it and usually best when the bike is rolling and knock down to first gear then a tap to neutral.
An oil change will help with getting neutral.

Don't try adjusting the clutch cable to make getting neutral easier as this will put more strain on the clutch actuator and can cause failure as documented on another post on the forum.

There good bikes, just make sure it's been maintained with regular oil changes. Looking for them to be done every 1000 Miles or so.
 
2003 and older motors (from what a dealer has told me) are ticking time bombs. I could be wrong...
Ive owned a 2007 SM510R, 2007 610SMR, 2012 WR300, and 2013 TE449 and all have been phenominal. Im sure there are guys out there who can give you feedback on the older models..
 
What is different about the pre-2003 motors? My brother has a 2001 410, and from looking at the parts catalog it looks like basically the exact same motor as my 2006 610. Obviously I can't see stuff like machining tolerances, but the layout looks exactly the same (except for left side kick start and the smaller bore/stroke, obviously).

I know some of the older models (pre-1999 or 2000, maybe?) didn't have pressurized oil feed to the head, so that's not great, although LC4 KTMs don't have that either and they seem to do fine...
 
I dont want to sound "forum smart" so Id ask owners of older models as far as reliability but I deal with a stellar Husky dealer and he said stay away from pre-2004
