  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Need new Battery '05 TC450

Can any of you guys reccomend a new battery for my '05 TC450 at a great cost...

My three year old battery is toast now ( has never let me down ) and with the cold weather actually moved into SoCal ... lot of rain , snow at higher elevations the old oil is a little bit thicker than normal... I wheeled my bike out of the garage to give her a quick run but my battery gave up the ghost and I have no kicker on this bike!

Tried a trickle charger for about 6 hours on it with no luck......

Looking for something economical as Christmas is here and funds are low....!

If any of you can recommend a battery and where to get it much thanks in advance!

I don't know what battery yours uses but the new TE's use a Yuasa YTZ7S. I ordered a replacement from BatteriesPlus in Phoenix 602-841-3900 the battery number is CYLAZ7SXTA. It was $70 plus shipping It is the same size as the Yuasa YTZ7S and has the same 130 CCA and 6Amp/hr, Its also an AGM and has a 1 year warranty.:) Ken

Another option is the yellow pages under 'batteries' - and of course TT store... if the order is big enough free shipping.

I called Power Source and asked them about the difference. They stated that the Yuasa is overpriced and that Yuasa has steadily been raising their prices this year. HE said "Yuasa makes great batteries but so do we" .... i like his honesty.....

Any of you familiar with/used a "Powersource battery"? Honestly at half the price of the Yuasa and slightly better than "Batteries Plus" and more CCA than either of them , I'm willing to try it.

I've used a **5lbs agm battery in my te450 & tc250 for a while now & have never had a problem. A lot cheaper. Lower CCA but I've punished the heck out of them cutting trails. Big deal to fully charge them before ever using them. They'll tell you they're at 80% after putting the acid in, but still put them on the charger for 10 hours or more. AGMs need to stay fully charged to live & prosper.

I'm going to ask a stupid question but isn't an AGM a no liquid/acid type sealed battery?

Also what is ** 5lbs ?

Also, if charging do I charge at 12v 10amp or 12v 2amp on my trusty Sears Craftsman battery charger on one of these batteries . Do I need to do it before install?

Most of my small batteries recommend 1.5 amp charging. Do yourself a favor and get a small battery tender. They usually run about 30 bucks and they have probably saved me hundreds of dollars worth of batteries.

Most of the AGM's that I have seen have a gel type electrolyte in them and they are sealed. If you are putting in acid then it is not an AGM.

When your swearing and spitting and cursing when your stalled bike won't start during the next race......i'll just smile and remember that little comment:D:D:D if it happens to me .....I'll just hit that magic red button and save my sweat for the next bone jarring set of whoops ****************************************! or when your boots have 20lbs of mud on them and you have to kick it over ... I've seen guys quit races over kicking their bike......

Ken, do I need to precharge or can i just throw it on the bike? I'm assuming for now if I need to pre-charge I can charge at the 12v 2amp and be fine on my existing Crafstman charger?

The one I just purchased, I put on a Battery Tender Junior and it said it was fully charged within about 10 minutes. That would have been plenty of juice to start my bike just fine and just let the bike charge it.

I don't think it is necessary to charge it, but do not use the 10 amp setting if you are going to do it. The 2 amp setting should be fine, but refrain from over charging it. :) Ken
 
Pfffft...my TC starts so eays you could use a slipper. Hot or cold.

Use a trickel charger, millilamps, not full amps, slow and steady....Battery Tender does it best...disconnect the Negative cable when not in use or charging.

E-starts are for girls. :doh: :lol:

That's where you go wrong and the battery goes to the dump. It does need charged. 1.5 for 10 hours when put into service. The AGMs are two types. Factory activated and sealed; & aftermarket where you have the neat 6 pack puncture packs and then you put the non-removable sealing strip over the holes.

The ** is the prefix JT YT XT, depends on whose catalog.
