• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need help to determine the year of my CR

Chaps,

I have in a previous thread shown some picture of my 1981 430 CR husqvarna. I know am becoming more and more unsure of the acutal year of this bike. The registration papers says 1981, but the frame do not seem to be re-painted (the frame is currently white as the 83:s). The fork diamater is also 40mm, howver, the frame number is CN04582, which seems to be 1981?
Also, the shocks are 'BETOR' ones (thanks for this info Cafe Husky!) not original to the frame (and MAN are the originals hard to find)

As I am doing an original restoration i am wondering are there any signs to look for in order to determine which year the bike is from other than frame/engine no (81,82or 83) ?

Thanks
Lars

My CR har been WR-equipped w

I'm not an exspert there are better ones than me on here. So here is what I know. The 81 Engine should have Two rear Motor Mounts and the Swing Arm Bolt should not pass threw the Engine. If its an 82 and newer then the Swing Arm Bolt will pass threw the Engine and act as a Motor Mount. The 81-82 Shocks should be 17.25 Inchs Long, and if its an 83 or newer then they Should be 18.5 inchs long. Hope this Helps.

Here"s what you have with the # "s you are giving us on this site is an 81 WR430 engine with a 81 CR430 frame that some one painted white . The 81 430 engine is the first engine to have the swing arm bolt pass threw the rear of the back case"s . In 81 all of the rest of the Husky"s had 2 rear motor mount bolt"s that year . The 40 mm forks on the upper triple clamps had 2 bolts on each end the old 35mm clamps had 1 bolt on each end . It looks like there is parts from a lot of different years on this bike and that"s OK a lot of the bikes we buy we see this . Enjoy this bike and have fun riding it .

Thanks for the reply. My bike does have the swingarm bolt going through the engine. I wonder if this just due to the fact that the eingine is swapped (it has eng. no 2087) or if the frame would look different for on w/o this feature.

Hmm. mystery thickens!

Thanks
Lars

year - type - mumber -number motor
1981-CR 430=CN 1001=2085
1981-WR 430 =WN-1001=2087
1981-XC 430 =XN-100I =2087

If the bike had been heavily raced at one time I have heard it is common to replace CR engines with XC or WR engines because of the difficulty of finding a good used transmission set. That was possibly the start of the mismatches and progressed from there

Can anyone clarify the differences between the XC frame and the CR frame? When I rebuilt my 390 I used what I thought was a 1980 spec frame, but I am now certain that the frame is from a 1981 XC430, and I have been trying to find out the specifications of this frame, in particular the front end geometry.
