• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need help identifying forks

Husqvarna
AA Class
Got these forks online from a guy that claimed they were from a '79 OR. That's not possible, since the tubes measure 40mm. The crown has 1512 357 cast in it,and the slider has 1512 358 K1 on it. The tube is 29.5 inches long. Anybody got any idea what year & model they might be from? I bought them assuming they were 35mm,and would fit on my '79 250CR. If I can replace the entire fork assembly on the CR with these, that would be ok,since I would gain travel, and bigger tubes in the bargain. Thanks for any help.PC260030.JPGPC260031.JPG

I dont think you can tell from the casting numbers what they came off of but they will for sure swap right on your '79.

The 40mm's on the WR and CR's are not the same. WR's have 10.6" travel and CR's have 11.8" travel.
I don't know the length of the fork tube un-assembled, but if they are WR's the overall length will be 41".
I'm guessing from your picture yours are WR's, because the CR's are longer below the axle about 1".
Yours look like the shorter WR's, but just guessing.
Also in 83 they would be white lower legs, but the lengths would be the same for all 40's.

The lowers did not have different lengths until '83 or '84, before that only the damper rod was different on the WR and XC/CR.

Yes, the above is correct. The 29.5 inch chrome leg is the standard MX length for 83 / 84 and the correct length for both the MX and Enduro bikes from 82.

A good upgrade for earlier bikes to replace the 35mm forks...

Thanks for the info, guys. Guess I will get some seals and do the install.

CafeHusky members ROCK!

Now,does anybody know what length the two different damper rods are?

I guess I can put 1 leg together long enough to run it through the stroke & measure the travel.

Thanks again.

My guess is that the damper rods in the forks you have are correct to give you about 300 mm of travel. The shorter damper rods are for use with the forks with less underhang below the spindle. ie the 83 / 84 Enduro fork.

Just measure the length of the damper rods. The ones for 11.8" travel are a little longer than that, and the ones for 10.25" travel are just a little longer than that. It's the damper rod length that determines the fork travel. Be aware that the forks will assemble with either damper rod length in either outer (cast) tube length. But I wouldn't mate the long damper rod with the short outer tube - there is very little overlap onto the chrome tube with that combo. Personally, I like to build the 10.25" forks onto the 83-older frames to lower the front end and tighten up the steering, even with the full travel rear it doesn't feel like a stinkbug to me.
