    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Well Factory Husky racer Jake A was leading and had some type of motor problem on the Factory Husky and had to take another DNF.
Our old friend ex Husky rider now Beta Racer Nic B took his first ever first overall # 1

As for my ride I was the first Husky to finish. Took 5th in class out of 22 and finished 60 overall out of over 300. Eight more rounds to go so I need to step it up to keep my # 1 plate
Now we go to Idaho in March for Rd 3
 
Nice picture at cycle news, a few more inches to the left and you could see me + 20 friends yelling and screaming hanging from a rock up on that hill that Nick, Jake and Ricky absolutely blasted up! Interesting race, Nick and Jake battled in the beginning for the lead, but by the end of the second loop, Ricky was lead before wiping out twice and allowing Nick and Ivan to pass by. Rolled up on John (ajax) on pit row, earlier in the day. Stacy and I rode around the course with photographer Mark Kariya, who is a fantastically funny guy. Spent some time with Brabec and the Caselli family, while sneeking in and out of the pits with beer (hiding from officials), waved hello to Andy Jefferson and Husky crew. It was a great, crazy-fun, Very windy, weekend watching the kids race on Saturday and then the full race on Sunday.

Round 2 NHHA Race Report​

Round 2 of the National Hare and Hound series was held near Ridgecrest California in the desert known as Red Mountain. I am always excited for this race as I grew up riding and racing in Ridgecrest. Last year I felt really comfortable at this race but just had a bad start so I was really confident going into this year. The race started at 9:00am Sunday morning, which meant I would be showing up to the line around 6:00am to get my bike where it needed to be on the line. I got the spot I wanted and practiced the bomb a few times as well. When the banner went up I knew I was ready to get the job done. The banner dropped and my Purvines Beta 498 started as fast as all the 2-strokes around me and then pulled everyone to the line, which I knew, would be the fastest. From there it was up to me to get to the end first. I managed to do that and now the first part of winning my first National Hare and Hound was complete. I was out of the dust and in the lead. Bummer thing for me was that winds were around 20-30mph and dust wouldn’t be too much of a factor in the race. I led the race for probably the first 20miles with constant pressure from Jacob and he made the pass on me when I missed a turn. I wasn’t too worried about him passing me, as it was really hard to lead and follow the ribbon in the windy conditions. It was kind of nice not to set the pace and now I could just focus on him and keep him in my sights. Little did I know I had Ricky Brabec on my tail trying to make the move on me. I tried to pick up the pace once I realized how close he was and I got right back on Jacob a few times. Eventually Jacob would lose the ribbon along with the rest of us and we were left scrambling to find the trail. I spotted the ribbon first and pinned it back towards the trail. This put me back in the lead. I was happy to be leading again as I remembered there was a $100 bonus from Bike Week radio show to be won for 1st rider into the pits and as a motorcycle racer there is no more motivation needed then money. Or at least for myself! I managed to lead into the pits for the complete 1A loop and head out on to loop 1B. Now I had Ricky Brabec on my tail again and we left battling it out. He was really fast in the open sections and I would gap him in the tight stuff. So we played the yo yo game the whole 1B loop and then we set out for loop 2. This is when the real battle began. We took off down a wide-open sand wash. It was flat out as fast as our bikes could go downhill. We were swapping positions back and forth and roosting the crap out of each other at the same time. I knew he would hang it out a little more then I would down the wash to get the lead but I wasn’t too worried, as I felt confident once we reached the technical sections I would get back in the lead. It happened exactly as I planned. I made the pass on Ricky and then we hit the rocks. I started to feel really good in the rocks and rode like I know how too instead of riding like a goon. About halfway thru the loop I checked back behind me through a valley and noticed I had a pretty sizeable lead. This was probably not a good thing for me. At that point I realized it was possible to win and I started to get nervous a little bit. I rode way to cautious from about mile 60 to 75. I allowed 2nd place, which was now Ivan Ramirez to catch up right on my back wheel. At this point I was not about to allow him to pass me with only 10 miles left in a race I had lead all day. I started just riding as fast as I possibly could but trying to not make any mistakes as well. There were a few tight sections left and I made some good choices and would put a little gap on him but then with me trying to follow ribbon and him just following me it would allow him to close up. I made it through the final tight section and new the finish was close. I held it wide open over the last few hills and brought it home for my 1st overall victory in the National Hare and Hound series!!! I can’t thank everyone enough and I was super excited to get my 1st win in front of my friends, family and in my hometown. I am now ready for more wins and to march on toward the main goal with is the NHHA Championship!!!

Nick you need to update your faves (Mr Beta) **************************************** Great ride and the wheel to wheel stuff at a Nat H&H is just amazing, Beau's viddy just shows perfectly where Ivan was on your back wheel in the rocks with Ricky within seconds in third!! Epic hard won battle, great racing!!!
 
Hey Tom you better watch out those girls get real fast real soon. See that Blue and white Motorcycle superstore helmet in the picture just behind me. That is Riley and she is fast, so is Maggie they both chased me all day and both of them at times were ahead of me. The only places I can gain on them is the super tuff rocky stuff other wise they are gone. At the finish we were just seconds apart. I don't stand a chance at the fast out of state races unless they start making them harder.
 
I only finished a couple minutes ahead of Riley at DMC. That will probably be the only time I finish ahead of the fast girls this year.
 
I am a big fan of fast women(thats racing fast in this case)...and am fortunate enough have met and know 2 of the fastest in the world. JP$ and Kiara, their abilities and character are most impressive. JP has been killing it in GNCC as a retired US WMX champ and Kiara (Chiara) is still absolutly kicking it hard as the FIM world champion, she is gnarley! Both are super nice gals, and will anihilate/embarrass any guy here on a moto.

We used to have a mountain bike CODE RULE back in the day......"Never let BOB (Babe On Bike) pass you." If BOB ever made a move on you, you would simply pull aside and grab your sour ankle and let BOB by. Sounds like BOB is getting dangerously faster these days.
