  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

My TC250 broke down after 6.2 hours - update, pic of the head

Hi guys

So just wanted to know if you have had this odd brake down.

My new 2010 TC broke down after 6,2 hours, a small chunk of the head where the buckets sits under the cam, broke off !. Went down in to the motor and ruined bearings and gears !

My dealer and maine sponsor was a little time to fine out where the chunks came from, cuz everything looked okey, until we thoroughly inspected the head and cams. And there we saw that a large pieace just was missing.

Im sorry for not having pics, but we are getting this claimed. I wanted a new motor as im competing in the MX2 icelandic champion ship, but they are not willing to do that.

Otherwise i am happy with the bike, it runs great, one kick start - hot or cold, awesome stock suspension and great handling.

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. Hope all works out for you.

ACK! Hope things work out for you. Our TC has got about 12 hours and 2 races with no major issues. I hold my breath every time I read something like this... but so far... our '10 TC 250 has been bulletproof and extremely competitive on the track.
 
A local MXer in my area blew his engine to pieces (2010 TC250). I'm not sure how many hours he had on the bike, but I do know he had the TC since last October (or so). Husqvarna gave him a brand new engine. Maybe some other in Cafe Husky could give you more information. This is just what I know.
 
I to hope things work out for you. I have 10 lites expert motos on my new tc250 and many practice rides trouble free other than checking the water pump for the bulletin and finding it very loose.As a owner of a small motorcycle engine&suspension shop i would love to see pics of the damage if possible.
 
Wow that's unlucky! I'd imagine it was caused by a flaw in the casting, which is unfortunate but happens occassionally in engine components.

As a side note, Husqvarna don't always have new engines available from stock. You can get them but normally only when production is ongoing of the relevant model. At this time of year the TC250 won't be being built...

Sorry to hear of your problem and I hope they take care of you fast. My son has over 20 hrs. on his and so far other than a lose engine bolt, lost kick starter bolt, lose rear sprocket bolts, the bike has been awesome.
 
Ok so Husqvarna wants the head to get it inspected, my dealer sent them photos and they couldnt belive their eyes. i didnt get a new motor, but i´ll get new crank, piston, gears, bearings and off course new head. So im im happy, tho a new motor would have make me less concern for the future. Hopefully this will be the end of my misfortune :)

I´ll ask my dealer if i may post the pics....
 
Yes the same happend to me after about 20 hrs the same piece broke of the head, still have the photos somewhere, see if I can find them, it looks exactly the same, fortunate for me the piece did not other damage.

Can you tell me under what conditions the piece broke out of the head?
Was it on a warm to hot Day?
I just like to know why it happens?
I think that the bikes overheat on a hot day when they are pushed.
 
It was like 10° celsius, so not hot at all. But i was pushing it and driving it like i stole it, the all of a sudden when i was coming into a corner and let down the throttle, a strange noise came out of it, and i stoped.
 
2 bikes - same thing, both with low hours...could be more than a fluke. Let's see what happens when many guys start getting to 100 hrs+
Looks like the design engineers tried too hard to make the new engine lightweight.
That section should be twice as thick IMO......

Amazing what few grams here and there can do to engine durability.

One in Iceland and one in Oz. Hmmmm I think it could have something to do with their proximity to the North and South Poles! Some weird magnetic anomaly that's affecting the metallurgical structure of the castings! Maybe these bikes are only fit for countries closer to Middle Earth! Ship more to the USA! :lol: Sorry, didn't mean to make light of the failures, I just couldn't resist the temptation to show off my geographical intellect... or lack thereof... :D

100 hrs is about the best time to let go of a 4T and let the used market deal with any issues...
