  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My new FMF Header...

...is at the Post Office waiting for me to come pay the COD shipping charges. I found a "free shipping" promo code online that I used when placing my order with FMF directly. In all fairness, it did not specify whom the shipping would be free for, but the e-mailed invoice showed "$0.00" for shipping charges. I suppose I made an assumption when I figured it would be me. Not the best customer service by any means. Hopefully the product is a different story. It will need to be to make up the additional $30 it is costing me.

Wow that sucks. I would definitely keep your foot on FMF's throat until they make good. Apparently they have plenty extra cash laying around and can afford to pay shipping...

Another thing I noticed is FMF's website is lame. Very hard to find proper items and poor cross reference info IMO.

And now for the rest of the story. Header was in its factory packaging, which was inside an absurdly large box. Post Office said they got the weight right, but did not accurately enter the dimensions when they did their "Click and Ship" postage. I'm thinking they used the dimensions of the factory packaging, which would have been more than adequate for shipping as it was larger than the header and had adequate packing materials surrounding it. Because of that the postage was $47 instead of the $18 to send the regular box. The postage due was the difference. I'm thinking they could have sent it FedEx 2nd Day Air for $47. Shipping is insane to Alaska.

Sorry Mike. :(

Not your fault. And I imagine the guy in the shipping department at FMF thought he was doing me a favor by packing it extra special. Good news is they sent me a Powerbomb with the lambda sensor bung in it so I can add a PC V later on if I want.

10-4 same bung on my powerbomb. I capped it off for now. Watch your clearances when installing. Particularly near the slave cylinder and radiator hoses. Other than that it's a quick job/ Did you pop the internal baffle out of the stock can or?

The instructions say to use high-temp RTV where the header bolts up to the head and at the slip joint where the header connects to the mid-pipe. Do most folks do that? If so, what is the best to use?

Red silicone is fine. Permatex red is easy to find at auto parts stores. I used it at the mid pipe muffler connection. Let it dry for 24 hours before firing it up. Using it at the exhaust port is useless IMO because it gets way too hot for any sealant to survive.

I've found that high-temp RTV turns into a clay like substance when it gets too hot. It still seals, it's just not rubbery. Still dose the job.

Followed Tinken's advice and installed it without RTV.
