  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC My new FE 350!

SM113, I've heard about some FE350 stalling at low revs problem (riding single/trials/rocky roads-tracks 1st / 2nd gear) .. a TPS unstable adjusting issue ... (KTM EXC 350 same problem ...) ?¿
Any hitting/hooking issues with low linkage/rear shock head ?

So far so good! No stalling, and she runs strong and crisp..

As for the linkage, I have only had it hang up once on a large log that I failed to wheelie over correctly :-D
I did notice that when you ride the bike and the suspension settles, the linkage flattens out and doesn't seem to be in danger, however I do think a gaurd/skid for it wouldn't hurt, better safe then sorry.. :-)

SLavens jams up the swingarm and they dont answer email or phone calls. The Obi works really well and its cheap to boot.

Is there any trick to removing the countershaft bolt on the 350s?

I haven't tried yet, on my 350 but I have had experience with these motors KTM/Husky in the past. They use a ton of Loctite from the factory! The best method is to get the bolt really hot to try to free up the Loctite and then within impact gun if you're lucky you can zip the bolt off I've seen a few of the bolts snapped off and then well it's not fun or easy to get them out.. Good luck

No issues on my 501. Easy as!

Saw this post and wanted to mention that I bought a bike from Halls shipped to me in a crate with no issues. Was the most pleasurable bike buying experience I have ever had.

Please tell me more about these SAMCO hoses. Simply changing hoses cannot make the engine run cooler. Is there a thermostat in the hose somewhere that is set at a higher turn on point?

Hey sorry on the delay... Been out riding

with the SAMCO kit there is no thermostat, it and eleminates the stock thermostat which I'm not 100% Sure but believe is set at 158°?? What I understand is the thermostat is there more for "green" emissions and causes the motor to reach its operating temprature faster, however the down side is it keeps the motor at a warmer running temp, and that's why the fans run all the time. And the can boil over..

I know this could be comparing apples to oranges but on a tight singletrack loop while Riding a 14' KTM 250 xcfw the fan runs constantly, yet on my FE it only came on once when I was stopped behind a slower rider.

Hope this helps?? Maybe someone else on here has more info on this?
But all I know is it seems to work for me and I love my Husky!!

On best dual sport site , I'm sure he said there is a power loss if you take out the thermostat as its not up to running temp , I'll see if I can find it

He also said the magic mod was the best thing out there for these bikes. I always thought it wasn't anymore then a TPS adjustment which he strongly argues. Now he has come full circle and doesn't offer the magic mod anymore. However a TPS adjustment tool for the same $$ as the magic mod. I don't think what he says is creditable any more.

Yes the dyno can tell a loss in power but when in a tight slow moving trail I'm going without thermostat and better hoses to keep me from walking. Most of us can't use the power of a stock bike anyways.

Best dual sports is snake oil IMHO. They take a bike and claim defects then sell a fix. How about the grunt? Good for them for making money, guess folks buy what they're selling.

We remove the thermostats off every bike we own or that comes through ZipTy. Thermostats are still constructed using wax which melts at a set temperature and then opens. There are a couple of issues with these. First of all, the thermostat prevents flow which will prevent the cooling system from operating at it's maximum efficiency. Secondly, we have seen these thermostats fail. These bikes run very hot and the wax tends to migrate out of the thermostats resulting in thermostats which slowly fail to open all the way. We also use our coolant which will not boil until 387 degrees, keeping the cooling system in check no matter where or what kind of riding you are doing.

I could see using a thermostat for ice racing or winter riding but my 450 is up to operating temp very quickly. I am concerned only about the upper temp end. The only thing I liked about the BDS is their exhaust end cap - but then I could build an S pipe in my shop to do the same for next to nothing. Cam.

^^^^^^ well said all, that's what I was thinking and I feel, and why I removed it and run Samco

Tinken - I always used engine ice coolant because I can get it locally and it is less expensive. You have 3 different coolants, which one do you recommend for these bikes and why?

XF2, it will transfer almost twice as much heat as Engine Ice. XF2 will wistand far more heat without pressurizing the cooling system.

It's expensive no doubt but it's a one time deal. You don't change it annually. I even drained it and reused it when I replaced a hose. Of course if a tree jumps out and you spring a leak that's ano ther story.
