• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just picked mine up from the post office today too. My mail man wouldn't deliver it because the dogs were loose in the yard. It's raining down here so I'm going to have to wait to see how it changes the ride in the single-track. I'm also stoked that It'll have more cranking power for those hot starts that are so temperamental.

I mean seriously - that is an honest 5 pounds way up high - that is really noticeable. I had a Turntech on my CRF250X that weighed in at only 13 oz! It was one weight mod that I could feel in the first 30 seconds.

For the guys that have been running the EarthX for a while now - how has the long-term maintenance worked? Ie like winter or off season storage or periods where one is away from the bike for a month or more?

I have quality Yuasa right now on all my bikes and have the CTEK charger (you know - the most advanced charger in the world) with the digital pigtails. I have to say that that system has made all my bikes issue free and my batteries are stronger than ever. I expect that CTEK will pay for itself in one year.

I WOULD however, love to drop 5 pounds on the 449 - that would make picking up that much easier. I am just concerned I dont have a specialized charger (or any charger for that matter) other than a dumb 1 amp.

Ive had the ZipTy provided earth x on my TXC310R for a few months now, the thing kicks butt and cranks like a big dog. good product.

How is it in cold weather? I've heard of guys taking their lithium batteries out and putting conventional ones back in for Winter...... Riding all Winter, if the snow isn't too deep!

No probs with my two lithium batteries in my two SM bikes in winter here in Germany. It might look as if the battery´s weak. But they just take a second push on the button to return to full power.

Not needed the Earth-x had on board electronics and can charge from any standard charger. Thats what makes this bat special over some of the others to me.

damn that's sweet. Put's it head and shoulders above my AntiGravity battery in charging aspect.

From their website...

Would you buy or sell a motorcycle without brakes? Then don’t buy or sell a lithium battery without a BMS! EarthX has patent pending technology that makes it the most advanced lithium battery; the highest cranking amp cells; and the only one with a built-in BMS for performance, safety and longevity! This is not an upgrade or optional feature but a REQUIREMENT for a lithium battery to operate correctly! Don’t be fooled if someone says if you have quality cells you don’t need a BMS, that is absolutely not true!

Which CTEK charger do you have? I noticed that some of the ctek chargers contain desulphators built in and this will kill lithium iron batteries. Ctek does make a charger for the lithium iron batteries shown here: http://smartercharger.com/products/batterychargers/ctek-lithium-us/
