  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So, that chain is really hitting the frame. Searched and found it wasn't uncommon. Now how to deal with it. Went to pull the mudflap to trim thr ridges off and encountered a spinning captive nut:mad: so got the other one out and used a dremel to remove the ridges. Cut off the end of the auto-retract kickstand nub. How bout oil?? I use T-6 Rotella 5W40 in everything else, from the Cummins to the GSXR1000 to the YFZ450. I did a search and as usual oil is like religion or politics:thinking: Doing an oil change and continuing the break in tomorrow. Oh yeah, burned my riding pants already with the stock exhaust protection:thumbsdown:

Best is a good mid range priced semi synthetic such as Motul, Maxima bel ray etc. I use Motul 10/ 50 but am happy with the others. Motorex is fantastic but too expensive, esp with my oil change routine of change every 3rd ride and oil filter every 2nd oil change-I would not benefit from the extra quality which really only manifests itself when under stress such as long oil change intervals. Congrats on buying a great bit of Kit Mate.

Congrats on your Husky. I run the Rotella 15-40 in all my bikes and my diesel trucks. No problems with clutch or trans. in my bikes (3 Huskys, 1 - Aprilia RSV1000 Factory).

My 09 510 had chain to frame rub too. I tossed the stock cz chain in favor of a little narrower much nicer DID X-ring chain. (I've heard multiple reports of the stock cz chain failing for no apparent reason) This combined with proper tensioning eliminated the rub.

I like my 09 te 450 too. The scooter is super fun in the tight bush and the turning is so much easier than the older frame geometry. I change my oil every 500-700 miles and I don't give a damn what kind it is as long as its motorcycle oil. If the stuff is slickery then I use it. I would like to find that Rotella stuff somewhere and give that a try. I have not had any problems so far in the 20+hrs.

I too have burned my ALL my riding pants...and my work pants so far. I spun the heat shield around 180 degrees because the shield has more protection on the front. I seem to burn my pants from the rear of the mid-pipe however the allen bolt is what is giving my pants burn holes nowif I dont stand on the balls of my feet.

I plan on changing the gearing soon and pick up a 14tooth counter and a 50T on the rear and start experimenting with the 4 sprockets. I need more snap. Why 13/47 gearing.WTH?

+1

This oil gives me the best shifting bike. No problems after 3400 miles. I change the oil so much that I think synthetic is a waste....plus it made my shifting very notchy.

Some guys put the link in the other way around with the clip facing the wheel. it reduces the exrenal dimention a tad.

I tightened my chain so it just clears the groove it made in my brand new frame. Funny how that happens, you would think ...........

I also geared my TE450 2009 bike for top end speed and have a T15/T44 combo while I break it in. I have plenty of sprockets to adjust the ratios later on. I like zipping through the city fast to get to my trails. Love the bike.

a non O ring chain fixed my frame rub.
as for oil I use Motorex 4T 10W60, and it is not cheap.
