    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

My EJK install and impressions

I installed the TR650-specifc EJK unit on my bike yesterday and here are my initial first impressions. The main two issues that I wanted resolved was 1.) the hesitation that I experienced at 3000 rpm, and 2.) the tendency to die upon first starting the bike. Once the bike was warmed up, the engine rarely died on me. Note that I have a 2014 model with the more recent Moss update. My only other mod is the pod mod.

1.) The install is ridiculously easy. I had previusly had one of these units on my CRF250L, and it was much more difficult to get to the fuel injector wiring. It's a piece of cake on the Husky. I went to a local parts store and picked up an oxygen sensor plug for < $4.00. This allowed me to completely remove the O2 sensor.

2.) I no longer need to let the bike warm up in order to be able to ride away without dying. The following video shows how it revs freely right after a cold start. I immediately put my phone/camera in my pocket and rode away after taking the video. The bike behaved perfectly. Previously, if I applied light throttle immediately after startup, it would idle very rough and sometimes die. This no longer hapens

3.) The lean stumble at 3000 rpm is now gone.

4.) Hitting the throttle in first gear, even at low rpms, will raise the front tire now. It would raise it before, but only at high rpms and only after it had warmed up.

5.) I'm now able to cruise around at rpms between 2000 and 3500 without feeling like the bike is struggling.

6.) One negative that I experienced was on a test ride yesterday in which I applied 80% throttle in first gear and then let off quickly. The front end came up so abruptly that it startled me. The engine then started to act strangely and would not accelerate properly until I gave it about 50% throttle. It went away and has not happpened again since this episode.

I took it out of the box, installed it, and went for a ride. I made no changes and it feels right to me. I don't have a wideband or anything on the bike to measure the a/f, so I just have to go by feel.

I rode the bike to work yesterday and when getting onto the HOV lane I applied about 80% throttle again and it did the stumble thing again. I have to give it about 50% again for it to get out of that problem.

I reported the same issue with mine the other day. It happens when the controller goes into yellow/red mode then you back out of the throttle. It doesn't switch right back to green mode. If you take the throttle back to zero for a few seconds it will clear up. All of the techs from Dobeck are at the SEMA show this week but I'm sure I'll hear back from them next week.
 
I have the f650 model. When I talked to them during my install they told me they can reprogram my controller if i needed more fuel. I will check next week and find out what are the differences between units.
 
I'll be interested to find out what Dobeck tells you, Baddrapp. I have the Wisco branded Dobeck unit for the F650 as well, although it's not installed at the moment. I couldn't get mine programmed to eliminate the hesitation off idle.

Mine was originally a Wiseco unit. It had problems with the LED lights about 4 days after I installed it so I called them. They had me send it in and they sent it back repaired and reprogrammed. I plugged it in and ran it just how they sent it and it runs perfect. The only issue is the stumble that occurs after you go into the acceleration mode then quickly back out of the throttle. They programmed a 7 second fade out in the switching from acceleration to cruise mode and I think that may be where issue is coming from. I should hear something from them next week.
 
Did someone take their bike to Dobeck? I wonder how they are arriving at their settings? It might be all bikes that are equipped with smog might all roughly use the same percentage of enrichment.
 
Got mine ordered. I've been fighting with this bike for 2 riding seasons and hope this is the final solution. Fingers crossed...
 
That's what I ended up with today too. I first went to 3 parts shops and was met with blank stares when I told them what I wanted. I remembered getting an 18mm oil drain plug not too long ago. I can see no reason that wouldn't work. I assume the thread pitch is 1.50? I haven't tried it yet.
 
I can't remember the pitch but 1.5 sounds right. I also got a package of copper washers. It works great.
 
I talked to Dobeck today. They told me they have 5 controllers on testers bikes. If they get good feed back from the testers they can reprogram my controller for the TR650 tune. Great guys to work with.
 
My Terra behaves exactly the same as shown in the video without any modification.

Since it was Mossed it rides wonderful under 3.000 rpm, cruising around 2.500 rpm is no problem.

No lean stumble at 3.000 rpm at all, never had this issue.

What I have noticed by reading all the threads and looking at the pictures is that the US and the EU models have got some differences. The exhausts of the EU version is completely different, no baffles at all. And no evap can on the EU version. I wonder if these are the only differences and if they may cause the different behavior of the US bikes?

At least the exhaust could have influence on the strange engine running the us version, the evap can with all the might connection hoses also?

In the German husqvarna forum none reported so big problems with stalling and the engine running bad like here in the forum.
