  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My custom fender rack and Rotopax Fuel Tank Setup for 12''-13'' 449/511

Rearwheelin

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Just wanted to share my setup with the good patrons here . I posted a few preliminary photos in a different thread but this is my final setup and how I made it work. My bike is a 2012 TE 511, different fender than 2011.

I searched the market for fender racks and ordered the nomadic rack. The rack had just been released for purchase but the designer of the rack built it for 2011 models not knowing the 2012+ bikes were different. The rack was very nice but on the heavy side and didn't fit my bike so I sent it back, return shipping on me.... I was looking for something light and more suited for the design of the bike... :busted: The design of the bike ! The fender is already perfectly shaped for fender bags and small items that ad up the weight in your back pack...

Started by buying some sticky back rubber grip pad that was sold in the perfect size and thickness at HomeDepo for $9 . Made some templates , traced them and cut them out on my band saw.

The adhesive on the grip pads was cheep and easily and cleanly peeled off. I went to my local chain auto supply and bought a 3M product for $25 a can. Much better now.
I bought 2 Dry Breaks from ZipTy . One to supply fuel and one to vent. Used the OEM vent hose, was perfect.Cut off a little of the fender to make room for the fuel line.
I bought some high quality bungees from my comercial truck supply store and modified the hooks a little.
The fender wells apex really locks the bungees in place and the grip pad locks in the rotopax .
The tank keeps your bike tank full until you burn a gallon. I couldn't here a splash in the Rotopax , it drains empty well  To fill it unhook bungees and stand it up. It will hold a gallon easy.

I had a single bungee holding the tank and it felt secure enough to ride . I am very pleased with my setup. Its a easy and clean way to pack a gallon of fuel. No drilling and saved 3 1/2 pounds by not doing the nomadic rack plus Rotopax adapter. I have read a few threads regarding mounting the Rotopax on these bikes . This the lightest and most cost effective way.

Now I see what you mean by the 1-piece fender. Why did my 2012 SMR511 come with this 3 piece of crap?!?! What is the part number for that? I am ordering one tomorrow.

Heck I will sell you mine, your just going to mod it up and make a mold out of it lol

I really leave things stock man. Actually, I am impressed. I have done no mods to my brand new Tundra and I have owned it since Dec 2012! Impressive for me.

Update : I took off the gripper anti slip on the fender and am now using a rubber foam contour pad I made out of a mat. Its soft and shapes itself with the curves of the fender and holds the rotopax in place like glue as well as not scratching the fender :applause: ....I used my wife's meat scissors to cut it out.. This is too easy to pack a gallon of fuel now  .....

Looks great, nice work. I was going to ask why you didn't do stiff foam on the tank so as not to put anything on the bike. I see you got there. Keep it coming.

What happens when you dump it, gas leaks, spark flies or exhaust catches.. then

Nice job though, respects for the engineering aspects - have the blinkers shown any sign of being burned by exhaust?

No leaks , road a wheely for a mile :) rotopax is tougher than the stock tank , havn't road with the signals yet , I will take my temp gun and see how hot it gets :)

Can you post up something on how you created the hose connection on the Rotopax gallon tank? And also, your connection to the gas tank on the bike - can I hear/see more about that element? My Rotopax does not have that outlet in the bottom like yours?

The connections I bought from ZipTy racing , I couldn't find them anywhere else . I might buy all they have and become a vendor for this dry break fitting and invest into rotopax while I'm at it to... Anyways , if your rotopax is different from mine just put the fitting at the low spot at the front somewhere it won't poke you in the ass. It's really easy . I drilled my holes then ran safety wire into the filler hole then slid the fitting to the drilled holes, threaded the nut on from the outside while holding the drybreak with an Allen wrench, snugged and bam , done.

The gas tank already has a hose barb on it. It's the tanks vent you plug the fuel line from the pax to

The foam is a neat idea, but I thought your rubber diamond plate was pretty cool looking.
They say that petroleum fumes in an oil field are hazardous, but they seem to give you special powers of home brew ability!
