  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My almost new TC250...

As many of you know i had a 2010 TXC250, EFI / E-start) I loved the way the bike handled and was a cool mount but tired of the semi glitchy EFI as I ride tight woods where you are just off idle a lot and thats where it struggled. So that bike went down the road when the new 449/511 came out. Flash forward about a month ago and a local fun ride after work. I begged Jake to bring his 2010 TC250 as i wanted to try that. I love how they handle and thought the less weight and complexity of the very basic kick start no EFI model might be cool. I flat fell in love with the bike. Handled like my 2010 TXC250 but better due to upgraded suspension and lighter weight. No EFI glitch as no EFI. Bike is not the fastest bike i have ever ridden but it is like a 125 with a killer motor.Handles like nothing else and for me is the best handling bike period. After that ride i was on the hunt for a carbed TC250. Bills had one, he made me a smoking deal and now it is mine.

LOVE the bike, just like Jakes rules the tight stuff and feels like it weighs nothing. Everything is good but the bike refuses to start hot so i am working on that.

anyway new to me toy...

Read up on old posts by me and other '10 TC owners. Make sure all the carb upgrades are complete. Ditch that OEM slip-on for an immediate boost in power (we used a Leo Vince with great results). A flex Jet fuel screw is a must as the starting characteristics are very sensitive to fuel screw adjustments down to 1/8 of a turn. Make sure you're kicking from TDC with slow, firm, kicks through the entire stroke. Short 2 stroke stabs will surely doom you to no starting. NEVER twist the throttle while kicking hot. Try a 38 pilot with 1 turn on a Flex Jet screw and work your way out with the screw by 1/8 turns. I'm not sure what pilot we ended up with in our bike, but you can PM "water racer" for info on our setup, as he's the guy who bought our TC. Out TC would start in 1 or 2 kicks cold and usually no more than 3 when hot. Good luck!

Have I mentioned I've never ridden the newer 250 (hint hint ) :)

yes spoke in depth with Jake whos bike starts fine. Have the exact same jetting and Zipty fuel screw. have a 40 pilot in it and it needs a 38 i think. I can't seem to locate one local today (some shops closed on Mondays). I just picked up Jakes upgraded hot start and will see if that makes any difference. I want to get this going good as i can already tell we are going to get along real good 9the handling is perfect for me and the light weigh feel is awesome). As for ditching the OEM muffler I'll probably leave it as I like the power as is and 1-2 more is not going to make me faster in the woods. Jake is going to give me the SA screen out of his stock exhaust. This is basically my 144 replacement.

Thanks for the info.

Glad to hear you got a TC, all for the same reasons I got one. I wanted the light weight and simplicity of the carb. Krieg had mine set up very well, starts easy and runs great. I switched to 13-52 gearing as a compromise for tight single track and open trails. Only downside is it can stall in the rough going unless you stay in first gear, and that makes the power a little jumpy, so I have a Rekluse core exp on the way. I still have my 125 so I ride which ever one I am in the mood for and it's great that so many of my spares(air filter, brakes. bearings, ect.) interchange.

First, congrats on the bike! But is it really more fun then your 144 was? All of the 250F's I've rode seemed boring. I was probably faster but since I don't race anymore I just care about the fun factor.
This bike is as close as you'll ever get to a 2 smoke 125 while still having a thumper underneath. The engine characteristics require a 2 stroke riding style to get the most out of the bike while rewarding the rider with the same (or better) handling, flickability, and sheer fun factor. My son transitioned from a KTM 150 2 stroke to a '10 TC 250 and had his best season ever including his first win. We sold our TC 250 and bought an '11 KX 250 F for this season and all I heard was how much he missed the TC 250... blah blah "this KX handling sucks"... blah blah "I miss the TC"... blah blah "this KX won't turn"... blah blah "can I have your CR 150, I hate this KX"... blah blah blah blah blah...

Have fun Kelly and when you're done with it, let me know..... I'm happy with my 144, but I want to see if I can re-do the cradle and stuff a WR250 engine in that frame!:oldman:

I don't think it is as fun as my 125 or as easy to ride overall, just a little less drama going up hills. Has gobs of instant power and is smoother over bumps. The 125 is fun and carefree, but the tc250 is a very effective trail/race bike.

Nice dude. Congrats!
I'd like to give it a whirl someday. It's been years since I've riding a small thumper like that.

Make sure you have the latest CDI box and cams in yours. If you have white Excel lettering on your rims, chances are you have the later production box and cams.

The updated CDI and cam is why some TC250s start real easy and some are awful.

I ended up jumping back into racing yesterday on my TC, just an off road race... I did a 115 mile trail ride on the 125 the day before, I figured if I was sore and tired I wouldn't push too hard. That theory worked, kind of... I didn't have time to prep the 125 so I loaded up the TC and figured I would give it a shot at an off road race. My other theory was that it probably wouldn't start first kick on the dead engine start so I wouldn't have much pressure starting dead last and could just ride for fun.

Most of those theories got tossed when it fired first kick and off I went. I probably could have had the hole shot if I just committed and went for it. I was out front with no one in my peripheral vision, that seemed like a good time to look around and see where everyone was. About that time 3 guys blew by, so off we went in 4th place. I lost a couple more spots heading up horsepower hill... TC is slow right, the magazines said so.

I ended up third out of 14 in 30+ expert and 23rd overall. Not a bad day, two races for the price of one.

Yeah the TC rules for off road racing just like it does for MX... for a slow bike that is. It is just a bit more planted than the 125, and a touch less fun.:D

Later,

Everything you guys are saying is spot on. Super fun bike with very 150 2 stroke feel to it. It has very snappy power, maybe not a ton but it is there real quick. I feel real fast on this bike. I will concede it is not quite 125 fun but just an inch away from being there. And I like the responsive motor and planted feeling more. It is a cool bike. Feels 125 light and handles amazing. I need to swap out the front Pirelli for my favorite Motoz Terrapactor.

As for starting i made some progress last night. I think It might have more to do with old gas than anything. The tank was full and I believe this bike sat a while. It is a 2010 with 3 rides on it. Played with the needle and put more gas in it (so probably half a tank of fresh now) and it seemed to start better. At least I could get it to start. Sometimes 2 kicks sometimes 10 but it would start. Going to dump the tank, install a 38 pilot and see.

thanks for the help.

I could be wrong but I think Bill fills his bikes with AV-Gas because is is a lot more stable. At least I think he told me that when I bought my 06. You might just want to start fresh before you do any jetting.

If you need any parts, let me know. I've got the updated CDI, updated cam and a complete rocket exhaust. I parted out my 2010.
