  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My 310s final drive ratio change and change back

robertaccio

Husqvarna
Pro Class
My 2011 had the standard 13/ 50 offroad final drive gear set, I went to a 52 tooth rear because I was shifting back forth into 1st on some of trails, with the 52 I could stay in smoother 2nd gear and hit 3rd and up when needed.
So for my 2013 I put the 52 on immediately and have been on that since I got the TXC310R....lately Ive found myself being jerky and not smooth with the 52 low gear.
sooo I went 50 .
The crew immediatly commented that I was carrying more speed around corners and riding much smoother. I felt it after a couple loops of getting used to the new gear set. My mostly unridden TE310 has had the 50 rear back on it for a while now as well. Maybe the OEM/race team had something there with 13/50 combo attached to the internal gearing....I know its still very personal by riding type, skill level, bike feel etc etc .
I am just resold on the OEM final drive set up of 13/50
added bonus is that I used the same chain and my axle is waaay back in the adjustment for super smooth suspension action and smooth turn in transitions. This bike the TXC310Redhead is the s&%t, hey and my TE310 Blackhead is super good and is still very competitive as well as well. R

I did the same thing. Ran 13/52 for a long time but found I had to do 2-3-4 on each little straight and back down in the turns. My friends with 450s were killing me as they just stayed in 3rd. Changed to 13/50 and can rev up more in 3 and only shift once. Bike feels much looser and faster. And realized that the engine braking on the steep downhills was actually hurting me. When got too steep the bike would stall and jerk to a stop and knock me down. Is better to pull the clutch and use more brake. Not racing like you are but like to be as fast as I can.

Lets not forget a few went for the 52 before correcting to the 12 port/ECU. I was one of the first in the
US to upgrade thanks to Husky UK ? So My little 2011 TE 250 runs as good as it gets. With 13-50 I can "Tractor" down low, all Black Diamonds (tight single track 1st/2nd gear) Concurred at Hollister Hills. BTW no Stalling or Flame-outs, I am heading south to ride with my bro (based out of Running Springs) Big Bear to Yucca Valley ? I may run my SM gearing 13/47 or 13/42 ? (Pavement/Fire roads) I will have to keep up with the big bikes on the road to get to the dirt.

I'm going to try 13/48 just to give it a little more top end on the street. Just went out for the maiden voyage with the 13/50 and felt I could get away with it, even on the steep hills since I never had to abuse the clutch to get up the tough ones. We'll see and I'll post the results.

I've only ridden a 12 txc310 and I know you're TE is basically a txc. How do they compare power wise?
LoM,
for clarity my 2011 TE310 blackhead is in (MY12 TXC spec) which is MY12 TXC ECU and 12 port injector running stock pipe with a MY10TC250 ti muffler and the dB-S/A plug in it. With this set up she is quiet but super "torquey" she also still revs to the moon if you want to. Its a very enduro bike set up, ride her hard all day with minimal fatigue. In this config the blackhead has zero defects in usable power as far as Im concerned.
my 2013 TXC310R redhead is set up with a full FMF powercore system with FMF's dB-S/A plug in it. ECU is on the LeoVince Open map and idle screw is at 34 turns out.
The TXC has a more racy feel, more Japanese 250F feel, but with my config (dB-S/A plug in) she is still tamed and smooth. I could run the pipe open in alot cases but I never feel the need, I want to pass sound at enduros and thats just the way she will remain. If I was a moto head she would open on the end and Im sure the thing would scream and rip (my skillset does not want rip-I want smooth power)
Camparo----first of and for all.
All the stupid publicity pay no attention----The Blackhead is still a 100% full tilt capable race bike and appears to have a more smooth power curve, making it a "real" enduro power machine. Ammies (99.9% of us) will have no disadvantage riding or racing an "old" Blackhead. These are great bikes, fact Ive had less issues in the past 2 years with my 2011TE then in 10 months of my 13TXC-r.
TXC310R is a more racy feeling machine and without all the TE street wiring and light bits it feel lighter (and is) So probably if your riding a MY12 TXC310 it will feel very much the same as far as weight as the redhead bike, a stripped down TE is what we have.
My TXC310R does also have a strong torque range but it seems to ramp up faster (which makes sense with the head and other updates). I think with the pipe and map Im feeling more smooth power, maybe its the map and its more rich setting? But its smoother now not quite as sharp feeling. (this is the same feeling I felt instantly had when I did the 2011 TE to 12 TXC mod on my MY11 310)

I just slapped on my SM 13-47 combo on the dirt wheels, Cruz at 45 on a 250F 6 speed. Should be fun at Big Bear this weekend? Should be able to keep up with the 450s etc Street or dirt.

On my 2012 I was running 13/50 and liked it OK. Mine is fully powered up to TXC ECU and injector. I did a 8 day dual sport event that was between 125 and 220 miles a day with open single track and ATV trails so I slapped on a 48 rear for the event. I liked it fine for that format but it wasn't good for single track. What I ended up doing was installing a 12t CS with the 48 and oooooh man me likey. I can now swap CS from 12 to 13 depending on conditions. Ideal IMHO. Glad you like your setup. I am pondering trading to a 2014 TE310 with the Keihin and red head. Sounds like they are smoother all around and will pull taller gears easier.

Do you need an in- pack driver and new bent washer every time you change up???

I use a pneumatic impact driver to change it at home. You can reuse the lockwasher a few times with no problems. I picked up a few extra washers from Halls just in case but haven't needed one yet. They are like $2 or less each. I have changed it with a long 1/2" ratchet while sitting on the bike in gear too. No impact required but it does help if you have one. A bonus of running the 12/48 is it puts the axle way back on the swingarm and seems to have improved my steering and suspension performance. Might just be placebo effect?

To get further into the issue of suspension geometry. you can create the same gear ratios with bigger front smaller rears and vice versa.
In SX for one racing regime alot of the mechs/crew chiefs etc like to use the bigger or biggest possible (clearance dependent) size front sprockets then adjust the rear. This acually gives them a sort of CTS/ATK logic in chain torque elimination.
It keeps the chain higher off the upper swingarm to lessen the angle that pulls the suspension into compression under acceleration (and thus harshness ). Its a couple of degrees of free CTS/ ATK chain torque elimination so to speak.
Plus the added benefit of smaller less prone to damage rear sprocket.
