    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

MX'ing a TXC 250... Help!

I'm considering trying this with an '09 TXC 250 to transition Cody into a 4 stroke from the CR 125. He's currently a solid C rider and mid-pack B rider on the 125. I'm going to give the new generation TC 250 a year or two to "mature" before I plunk down the cash... (actually I'm scared of the new motor till it proves itself...:doh:... there, I said it).

I'm aware of the TXC's additional weight. E-start will most likely be purged. Is the 6 speed a deal breaker? We'd probably switch the rear rim to a 19 eventually.

Any opinions? Is this a stupid idea?
 
I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Like you said, ditch the e start to save some weight. Switch to a 19 rear to help her spool up a little quicker and probably send the suspension off to get fixed for mx.
 
I have been playing a bit on the moto track with my TXC250. Stock it works fine for me. All I did was bolt on a bunch of crap for woods riding. :D It sounds like I am about the same speed as your son.

I am 165lbs without gear and the suspension at the stock settings has worked fine for MX. I run it softened up quite a bit for woods riding.

I wanted to be able to run a trials tire on my 18" rim so I bought a 19" because it was the first husky rim I found. I have the Moose ultra HD tube in my 18" and a Bridgestone knob, the 19" has the stock Perelli and stock tube. I weighed them both and the 18" was 0.2 lbs heavier. I am not sold on the 19" being that much better for MX unless you are at the top level.

I left the electric start and put in a turntech 2.5 battery, it is lighter by about 4 lbs but I really didn't notice a huge difference.

I enjoy some of the comments about my non MX bike... like "we have never had anyone come out here and huck a husky before" or "you ride that bike really well I would like to see what you could do on a real moto bike".

The TXC has given me confidence to hit stuff I never though I would. :thumbsup:

Well it looks like a good MX bike to me. Hey I am 50 and play at MX with my 09 TXC510 and it's a heck of a lot better than me. I have no problems putting away two of my friends on their "MX" bikes; an 07 Honda 450R and a 06 KX450. I say, you can do it!
 
Thanks so much for the pics Jake! I'm going to show them to Cody. He's whining about the TXC as an MX bike and would prefer me to buy the 2010 TC 250 (like any kid would). Your pics will go a LONG way in helping me to convince him the TXC will be a good "stepping stone".

If you want to swap your TXC 18" rim for my CR125's 19" rim, I'm all for it! If anyone knows this is not a compatible swap, please chime in.
 
Thanks for the update, I am thinking of trading my 08 te510 for a 250, I got the 510 for dualsport and its to much a dirt bike, so I got a 610 and love it for dualsport. Anyone interested in a trade? The 510 is clean with low miles.
 
Brand new 09 TXC 250 listed in CycleTraderOnline at a real good price near the Atlanta area :D
 
Probably not the rider you are but went from a tc450 to a 09 txc250 and love it for the woods and the track have been ridding much better since the switch
 
Maybe I'm missing the point, but why not a 2009 TC 250 (not the new one). He's strictly MX right? Wait a minute, the bike would double as your woods weapon too...so get the TXC! :busted:

There were no '09 TC 250's (with the "old" motor) imported. There are a few leftover '08 TC's around, but none close to me.
 
Central Jersey Cycles has a new 09 TC250 listed. I don't know which motor it is but they list it as an 09 TC250 ($6,500.00 or so).
 
I love riding the TXC on moto tracks it behavs REALLY well. turns awesome on flat and on berms, jumps straight, suspensesion can take the punishment. First thing to do is get rid of the stock tires and put on some Dunlop MX51's. That will make WAAAAYYY more difference than worrying about a few pounds of electric start stuff. Most guys can't ride an 85 to it's potential so passing them on their "real" moto bike shouldn't be too difficult.
