    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

MXGP is kinda weird to me

Watching to see how Poto does and some things stuck me as so weird about MXGP or at least this round.

1. Where are all the spectators? Its so quiet, no one leaning over the fence yelling, no excitement and people going crazy like here. Even the start line is super quiet. It almost seems so clinical and drab.

2. The camera guys are amateurs. Pretty crappy quality and coverage. Good enough I suppose but nothing like spider cam, slow mos, super sharp picture, etc.

3. The racing is kinda boring. big open track, not much passing, nothing real technical although I realize it is way harder than it looks.

4. Cairoli's lighted boots are silly and I would have been embarrassed.

5. The commentating was hilarious. Someone gets slightly sideways and they act like it was a close call.

6. Nagl and his husky looked really good.

7. It all just to polite and structured for me. Need mountains of half naked and drunk people screaming at the riders. Need big explosions and music. Its entertainment.

Don't judge the GP series off of this round, or the next round for that matter. This race was in Qatar. A country that probably has less than 1000 dirt bikes in the whole of the country. They let in spectators for free for this race and they still only had track workers there. Next week probably won't be a ton better as it is in Thailand where there still aren't a ton of motocross racers or fans.

They don't allow mechanics behind the start line like they do here in the US, and I agree, it makes it look empty and unimportant.

Wait until the series gets to the historic GP tracks in Europe. Then you will see hordes of fans leaning over the fences and yelling. If you wanna see half naked drunk fans don't miss the British round. Their drunk, naked, crazy fans make our fans look like a group of church ladies.
 
It's either race indoors or race in a big sand box at night , this time of the year In most countries...
 
Its the most practical way to conduct racing in the middle east desert (100 plus daytime temps and super dry). This is the only night race the last time I checked.

Look at this (I posted it in another thread):
I shot this on February 15th at Ottobiano, in Italy, during the finals of the Italian International Series of motocross. There was also a guy who started a chainsaw (from which the saw had been removed) every time Cairoli passed by, just to make noise. Other people utilized stadium horns... . There were not drunk people, but I'm glad about that. It was drizzling and we were watching the race in the mud (the track is still quite new: it was completed in 2014), but there were a lot of people from the beginning to the end.

I wouldn't say that it's not so technical: IMHO MXGP is just different from Supercross. In the former they don't have as many and as big jumps as in the latter, but they have more slopes and the corners look more difficult.

Anyhow, still IMHO, it's too soon to judge Villopoto: let him get used to this different kind of racing.

Regarding #1: There's zero fanbase in the Sandbox. Qatar was one of Luongo's other brilliant ideas.
 
well the weather not to bad the night part is cool but they need to work on the lighting somewhere over in that part of the world is a car track that they can't run in the daytime on cuz the tires can't take the heat the lighting there is kickass is can be seen from space they say
 
It all depends on which country the round is in. I guess Quatar is not the biggest party place in the world....:(
Some of the European rounds are good fun, nothing like motogp in Assen or so, that is a classic...:cheers:
