  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

MXA gives a bad review of TC 250

Just got the new MXA and it is not good for the TC 250. It basically said that it was slow and jetted terribly. It did say that it handled good because it was so slow. My question is, why did Husky send a poorly carbed bike to be tested. Why not have ZipTY racing sort it out before sending it to MXA. Here are a few quotes:
"The engine lacks hit, snap and punch. Instead, its anemic, lackadaisical and sickly"

"The TC 250 carburetor acts like a drunk at happy hour. It burps, sputters and fails to function properly"

There was a long thread about how Husky needs to set up the test biikes. I have no idea why they would spend four years in development and not spend the time to sort out the test bikes.

MXA was even harder on the new CRF250 though.
 
:banghead: if i was in Cali i would do the setup. It is EZ to make these run right. My 2010 TXC rips and everyone who rides it is shocked how much power it has. Even my buddy with a hard running GG300 was impressed with the power and blown away with the handling. GREAT bikes getting a poke in the eye by the mags because they are riding bike performing 80% of their potential. Unfortunate for sure.
 
Strange. I seem to remember reading a lot of reviews where the writer would comment on jetting issues, and then point out how they fixed it, or at least gave the manufacturer a chance to rectify the situation, rather than slamming the bike.

I suppose I could be thinking of modification articles, rather than reviews. But still, it would seem more informative to let people know that it is a situation that can be overcome.

Of course, none of the above excuse Husky from not providing a properly set up bike in the first place. That is puzzling...
 
Never fails, you just have to take everything from a dirt rag with a grain of salt, if it's not one of the big five, and it's not perfect in every way, they wont give it an unbiased review, years ago i stayed away from gasgas because of all reviews they gave them, them some years later i came across one for next to nothing, and man was i pissed when i rode it and found out just how good they really were!!, They said it was slow, didn't turn, and in general felt like a european bike, What the heck is that supposed to mean, it feels just like my YZ, And RM, It's not slow, it will outrun my 06 yz, and turn better, It doesn't turn as good as my rm, but what bike does.
Anyway sorry for the rant, but dirt rags give kudo's to the ones who give them free crap!!
 
Maybe they got it from a dealer that's new to Husky?

Do we really know the circumstances of how they got a bike? New bikes need to be broken in too.

Besides, these bikes are plenty competitive in Europe, so it starts to look more like a hit piece than a genuine attempt to evaluate.
 
I can tell you that everyone who rides my 09 txc250. Talks about how much more power it has than the KTM and jap 250 4t. I usually always like what the magazines dont anyway.
 
Maybe someone should do a review on those that review bikes ;)

I agree! I am half tempted to send an email to all the big mags once I get my TC 250 all squared away with all the aftermarket stuff and straighten out the jetting issues. Send something that says they are more than welcome to come and ride/test my bike against any of their fully prepped Jap bikes.......

I invited them up to do a real test on the 08 TXC450 all setup. Almost had them here but to many things going on and to much cost form them (for testing a husky I am sure).
 
The January issue of Dirt Rider tested the TC250 too. DR said essentially the same stuff as MXA and DB. However, at the very end of the test [last paragraph or so], DR stated that while the bike felt slow, they were riding it fast. Sort of a back handed compliment.

I'm waiting for the shootouts. Should be interesting to see how they stack up back to back.

As for me, I'm dying for a ride on one.

Thanks Kelly - I might take you up on that.

I just emailed my local dealer to see if they are doing demo rides or anything.

Also, if you guys head to Bend this winter -- let me know and I might be able to meet you guys there.
 
Test riders are movie critics, anything good they slam & say it is a bad movie, anything they claim is good is a usually a $hitty movie.
 
Same boat KTM was in a few years ago when I started riding them, remember the reviews?? My next bike is going to be 95% a Husky, Euro bikes rule in my book, If you could do like a blind taste test, Husky would be the Old Milwakee Light of dirt bikes.
 
Let me put my surprised face on. :rolleyes: Like I've said before, hire some good riders, get some podiums. Things will take care of themselves from there.
 
The thing that really gets me is i remember reading bike tests in the past, and they were changing jetting, messing with needles, and slides, until they were happy with the bikes they were testing.(jap of course)
 
Just do what my son did last wekend to three guys in our MX club...beat them around the MX track. OH... BTW they were all on 08/09 Yamaha YZ450F's. One road his bike and on his third lap he was faster on the TC250 Husky than his own YZ450F LOL. I asked him what he thought about my son's 2010 TC 250 and he said " man this thing is light and handles like crazy". "You can cross rutts, blast out of turns, shorten the track, heck just pick a spot and you're there." He also said "did you see me blast out of the berm and overshoot that double?" I said yeah you looked like you've been riding the bike for a long time. He said " it's so fun, neat bike, I like it". I consider this a real test by a Yamaha loving MXer. I do agree any bike tested SHOULD be set up properly before testing or why bother just use the pages for TP.
