  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Motosportz Damper install 2010 TE 310

Husqvarna
AA Class
Got my damper set form Motosportz. Nice unit, only had one problem, the base plate or C plate riser the damper mounts too interferes with the speedo mount. Also I had the wrong arm sent to me on the damper, but they are gladly exchanging it for the short arm.

To fix the speedo mount issue, a simple solution was found You need to buy a .5 inch longer speedo bolt and a .5 inch nylon shim to allow the speedo mount to sit forward some. The speedo mount has these little "triangle legs" or feet that sit on top of the top yoke to aide in it mounting with a single 8mm bolt that mounts to the front of the top yoke. See below

The two feet are there, hard to see but the black spacer/damper mount fits flush to the edge of the top yoke where the liitle legs normally would go

You can see the feet here easier

You can see the feet from the top here.

The bottom of the damper C plate riser/mount has the edge milled back about .25 of an inch at a 45 degreee angle, all the way around. By using a longer speedo mount bolt and a .5 inch shim, this allows the edges of the little speedo mount feet to snug up in the space or pocket this milling created and the shim takes up the space between the mount and the top yoke.

At first I was going to cut the speedo mount feet flush, but no need too with the shim as you are only shimming .5 of an inch and the little feet still get a bite in that pocket between the top yoke and the damper mount so the speedo will mount up just fine!

Make sure if you order one for a 2010 TE 310, make sure the arm is the small arm else it won't mount to the pin correctly as the pin channel in the arm sits too far out on the long arm.

Firebolter thanks for the post - looks like a good solution. I am running into the same issues. When you installed the spacer to the speedo mount did you have any problems with the front light angle? Looks like the front piece holding the light is also mounted to the speedo mount and hinged at the bottom - seems like it would angle the light down. Any thoughts you have would be helpful. Thanks

That was my concern with this method as well.

Instead, I kept the stock spacers under the damper mount, which gave it enough height to clear. This was on a 2009.

I wanted a bit more bar height anyway, so it worked out for the better. Only catch is that you need longer bolts, which I've had trouble finding here. I had to use non-galvanized instead, so I'll be replacing them as soon as I can find suitable replacements. Only place local that would get them for me wanted me to order a whole box of them. :censored:

I also had issues with the post height and collar on my bike (almost no clearance between my tank and the steering tube), but Kelly was hugely helpful and it's all good now.

I didn't know Kelly was still around. I called him before Christmas, to inquire about a steering damper. And I haven't heard from him. So I just ordered a Scott's damper, skip plate and a bunch of other stuff from my dealer. You snooze, you lose! Gramps

Have fun paying $70 for a rebuild when it wears out

I bought a ktm 640 and it has a scott but its all worm out and doesnt work to well. After calling about a rebuild they wanted $100 as they said I have the older model and it needs to be updates:eek:

The husky's moto z will enjoy lifetime repairs for FREE****************************************!

Just picking :D

No, I used a small 1/2 inch barrel nylon bushing thing I got form my local hardware shop, so it fits flush to both the mount and the top tree, so the same angle is for the headlight. I have alot of off road hours now with no issues. I also tried the way the other dude mentioned with the stck risers under the damper mount, but I didn't like the way the bars could flex some so I went flush mount and used a shim to move the speedo mount out some. I am happy with this set up. I can see my stock odo/speedo even with my ICO mounted.

I dicided to file off some of the speedo mount to make it work. The 1/2 spacer did not seem to work well for me - i could not get the feet on the speedo mount to sit on the triple clamp with the damper on - as you were able to. Mine is a 2011 not sure if there are some differences. Thanks for your help!

I almost did the same as you, but I was able to get those little "feet" to fit in the pocket, so mine is solid. Have been riding now with it like that and no issues. Solid.

The damper mount is way larger and beefier than it needs to be IMO. I almost modified it, but was lazy..........

What size is the steering tube bolt? I just bought one of these and my bike is at my sisters. I will need to take it off to fit the steering damper collar that holds the pin. Want to bring the right tools with me

I just got my Motosports Damper Yesterday. I was in the middle of install the damper. I came across the two steering anchor bolts that hold the handle bars clamps they are too short and fat to fit in the Motosports damper housing.
So I realized that is why they gave me longer anchor bolts. But when I tried to remove the stock anchor bolts it look like they were machined with a tapered middle. The washer would not pull out all the way. I have a 2012 Husky TE310
Does anyone know how to get the stock anchor bolts off? Any advise would de appreciated

Thanks

They should come right out of the rubber mounts. If not they were over tightened and it smashed the steel collar inside the rubber mounts onto the bolt and you will need to force the bolt out. that is if I am reading the issue right.

Sorry man. Good seeing and chatting with you at Bills the other day. Good to see your still at it. Have fun on that adventure ride.

I was able to remove the rubber mount but the bolt washer it's self looks like it has a taper in the middle of the bolt and the washer will not budge pass the taper bolt. The bolt is shaped kind of weird it's skinny in the middle and fat at the end of the bolt. Also I noticed that the damper housing holes are not big enough to accommodate the stock anchor bolts. the end of the bolt is just to fat to fit into the damper housing.

Is there anyone who installed one of these on a 2012 TE310? Am I missing something?

Thanks

I figured it out. The two anchor bolts had a metal sleeve on them making it look like it was tapered. had to pound the two anchor bolts out of the sleeve to get the bolts out of the lower steering clamp. it was a chore but they finely gave.

to all the Husqvarna owners who have a 2012 TE model I hope this helps you to install the Motosportz damper.

Thanks
