• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

More Carb news, TMxx info this time

A couple photos

Cliff almost had it...

Rough day to be "testing"...

And the all important after ride plug check, it is a bit darker brown than the photo shows. The flash washes it out a bit.

Later,

I think that the main "benefit" of the JD kit is just cost; it's way cheaper than the APT/Lectron!

Yep, lots of nice options out there. Tomorrow we are doing an all husky 125 ride. Jake (2009 CR125 with TMxx and JD), Brandon (WR165 with PWK), Blake (09 WR165 with PC pipe and older TMX) and myself (CR165 with TKM Doma 200 pipe and Lectron). Should be fun.

thanks a lot for the effort and posting Jake. See ya tomorrow, this is going to be FUN****************************************

With the new JD jetting kit for the tmxx 38 what number slide did they do there testing with? If this new kit works they sure will make a lot of people happy.

Was 2009 the first year for the TMXx carb? My 2008 has the standard TMX. I'm wondering if the TMXx replacing the TMX would be a worthwhile mod, similar to installing a PWK. I think I read that the intake boot needs to be replaced to swap to the TMXx?

The #4 slide is the one I was told to use, not the #5 everyone uses with the RM needles...

Later,

Jacks TMxx ran WAY better than it ever did before. The JD kit works. I think Jake had to go slightly richer than recommended by JD but run FAR better. I very nice option for those wanting to keep the TMxx. Will be interesting to see if it helps with the finiky jetting on those as temps and altitude change.

I'll be interested in knowing if it helps with the kickstarting on the larger displacement models. Everyone says that the Keihin helps with that.

I know that the RB Design mods really helped this. 1 kick every time. Idles like a big diesel, smooth and easy.

Wally, what size is your bike?

I have no problem with the way that the TMXX runs in my bike, but the starting problems have forced me to order a Keihin (which I am hopeful will fix my issues). Do you think that the RB mods help more for cold or hot starting?

If the RB mods sort those issues out, I would be very tempted to keep this carb and unload the Keihin... I may try both and see which works best for me, but it's tough to spend so much money and not know how it will turn out.

I have the same hope; my bike runs fine, it's just starting it is super inconsistient, easy one day and a pain the next. I just ordered one of these kits, so I will report back. I also ordered a Keihin PWK, so I will be able to compare the two setups.

I have been a big proponent of the Keihin PWK airstriker because of all the things we are talking about. The RB Designs mods make the TMXX work just as good as the pwk on the bottom and starting without sacrificing the awsome mid to top that the new mikuni has. My well sorted Pwk is now relegated to my 165 saw bike and the Ron Black TMXX is on my primary ride '12 WR/CR 165. Until the SC gets here. I switched both of my 250 and 360 to the keihin airstriker and it made them perfect. I can't imagine the RB TMXX not duplicating the performance on the bigger bores that it does on my 165.

Walt , how much of a difference was there between the SC and the modded Tmxx . Is the enough of a difference to justify the switch if you already have the modded Tmxx

Why the SC when the Lectron is available NOW ? Not 10cents difference in performance, if at all. AND it is $500 cheaper !
