I have never been to MOAB and am going with a group that has- and they are all better rider's than me. Apparently we are going to be doing 5miles of hell (5moH). Bikes get loaded next weekend.
I guess I had my heart set on taking the 09TE450 but if we are going to be doing more trials type stuff than cross country- I should reconsider and take my Other bike. First I am short (5'5"), so I am tippy toes on the Husky- I ride on the pegs and try not to dab. LOve the bike for over 10 mile per hour stuff- very plush suspension. I can pretty much climb anything in a straight line with it- but it gets hard if there is switchbacks and such.
My "other bike" is a 2002 Ktm 250f exc with a HT racing 351 big bore kit. The suspension has been lowered internally. This bike is very nimble and I have alot of confidence/experience with it. I have great ballence with this bike at speeds to zero mph. So its like my trials bike.
I guess my impression of Moab- based on videos and stories- is that the TE450 would be great in most circumstances- but when challenged- seeing some video of 5moh- I might wish I had the other bike. I just don't know what percentage of which kind of riding I will be seeing out there. I have been told "it doesn't matter what bike", bring the KTM for nimbleness, and bring the Husky for plushness. So I would appreciate any opinions. MOAB will be a new experience- I ride woods single track. Not used to traction like that and not climbing/descending all day.
guess- I am getting excited to go- wish this place was in my back yard-
Thanks
