    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Military Auto

No, but since you posted it I did a search and watched a cool video on youtube. Very sweet bike in the snow with the skis.
 
I'd like one, but the Swedish Military will probably not sell any of their bikes due to their environmental policy (two stroke engines).
The bikes will probably be converted to beer cans or something similar.
A friend with some connections in the military told me this, he want one for himself too.

It's a fun bike to ride in the snow, took me a while to get used to the skis.
Could be more power in the engine, but it takes you from A to B.

This is a picture of a prototype made by Hägglunds, actually a very ugly bike ;) Some problems had them to ask Husqvarna to build a bike instead.

That Hagglund looks like a bike designed by some one who had never seen one before but sort of knew how they work. Perhaps you Swedish chaps should start lobbying your goverment to sell them, It probablly takes more energy to recycle them than it does to scrap them!
 
The Hägglund prototype used a variomatic belt system instead of an automatic gearbox.
The belt lasted for approx 90km and was then worn out due to the heat it created.

It's better to fight a wind mill instead of trying to change the decisions of the army. :(

It would be very interesting to know if someone actually bought an army bike.
 
Armstrong (CCM /Harley Davidson) made this very ugly bike for Her Majesty´s Armed Forces. Some people like them `cos of the Rotax 500cc. Freely available in Western Europe.

Sweet, maybe Husky can adopt some of that fuel capacity solution :D

...............the 80s version was not particularly liked by the people that used them heavy, underpowered , did not like getting very wet, not at all Sqaddie proof. Unless they had transferred directly from the Indian army and the Royal Enfield, or was the owner of a BSA Bantam in a previous life. Hagglund however came out with the Bandvagn 206, which was the DBs!!
 
the Royal Enfield military bike is a turd, i owned one for a few years, spent more time working on it, then riding it,
i converted it back to right side shift, that helped, cam upgrade ect,,,still a slow turd.
cool,,,but a turd non the less.
i know of a Husky Military auto here local, like new, and iv rode it as well, its slow, hard to ride, quiet, but cool,,,slow,,,but cool.
based on the 77-79 auto trans,..but detuned a bit.
thats ok, the US used Suzuki DRZ,s for a while..i saw a bunch for sale on a gov auction site last year,,,another turd..
cant for the like of me figure, why any military would want a slow, POS for a motorcycle..make em fast, reliable, and put lots of guns on em..
yea...thats what we need lots of guns...remember Norris in Delta force,, rockets on bikes, and buggies???yea..
FYI: if you look in the obove picture, in the upper right is a Husky military auto.
the bike pictured looks like a cheesy copy of a Rokon...another turd.
 
The older Military Huskies (Mc256 from 1968) was equipped with a 4-speed manual gear box. When driving in the snow using skies did the driver shift gear by hand. The military autos was delivered to the Swedish army 1980, and they are actually not that heavy.
