• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

May never ride again

I went trail riding on Friday on my te 250. On our 3rd run, I went down, and landed and bounced flat dab on the only rock that was on the damn trail, I wasn't even going fast at all. 2.5 hr painful ride to the emergency room then 2 hrs at the ER, they get my x rays back and tell me that I shattered my humerus and finally give me a shot of morphine, which did very little. It is the ball that is part of the shoulder, literally in a lot of pieces.
Orthopedic shoulder specialist tells me I will need surgery and a possible prosthetic ball joint. I have surgery scheduled for this following Thursday. In all his years he has never seen an injury this bad to a shoulder. He will try the plate and screw method but is not sure if the bone will disintegrate. He says I may never get to ride again and if lucky will get 70% mobility back and if I have to get the prosthetic I will need that replaced in another 15-20 years. I am bummed and the bike is not even paid for. I had just put on my motosportz disc guard as well:banghead:

Hang tough man, there may still be hope.

Doctors always say you may never ride again. I've told that a few times and I'm still going.

Good luck.

First sorry to hear about this injury its in a really tough location.
But Dont let Drs tell you, you will NOT do something again!! Get fixed then move forward.
VR46 compound fractured his lower leg @1 month ago and was out a fews days back riding a world superbike at misano to find his condition level to return to motogp.
name one non-racing world dr that would say you will ride in a month after a leg break like that. My Drs (who are great guys) have me off the bike until late august,, if my bike was reaasembled Id be out training on it this weekend. Get everything back togther than get back out there !! best of recovery, beat the pain and get with the bike again. RN

Damn, that's pretty serious. Sorry to hear that. Where were you riding (I'm in ga also). And I'm curious (not passing judgement) but, did you have a chest protector on?

man, I hope you guys are right. If I can ever ride again that is one piece of equipment I am looking at, full padding for shoulders and kidneys. Any recommendations. The doc said pads might not have helped much, I am a big guy 6'5" 235 and said I had a lot of momentum going against me
NO chest protector, I was at highland point in cedartown

Like a comment from above, maybe your doctor will be wrong. I snapped my femur in two and broke my hip in three places in 1975. My orthopedic surgeon told me that I was done riding, done running and would never walk normally again. Boy, was he ever wrong.:busted:

Sorry to hear about that....2nd opinions are a must, Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL is a leader in orthopedics. Many, many sports injuries are treated by him.

I'm very sorry to hear of your injuries, frenchlayer :(

Like everyone here has said, don't believe everything the doctors tell you. A lot of the healing process is dependent on the individual's own attitude and willingness to put in the hard work to make it happen. I am confident that you will ride again if you want to

I hope you heal up quickly and completely, and we'll all be looking forward to a ride report somewhere down the road :)

Don't take this the wrong way but my chest protector is the first thing I put on. In fact, I've told guys that if they don't get proper gear, I won't ride with them. Knee and elbo protection is also important in the Southeast. All it take is a silver dollar sized rock to shatter a knee cap in seconds. Frenchlayer, I hope you make a full come back and I'm sorry about your accident. Highland Park is a first class facility with great staff and super management so I hope they tried to help you as much as possible.

French layer,

Sorry about your accident. I also believe you have to create your own healing level with determined effort, lots of ice, and a never say die attitude. When I seperated my shoulder two weeks ago, the shoulder pads left bruises along all the seams. As hard as I hit if I hadn't had the shoulder pads my injury would have been as bad as yours, maybe even worse. 15 mph initial launch and impact a full 10' below where I took off. Entire impact was on my shoulder. I am going riding tomorrow, allbeit on very tame stuff but it is time to go. I was supposed to be in a sling for 3-4 weeks and 6 weeks minimum before resuming full activity. I have been steadily increasing my work load and just being careful to stay away from anything that spikes the pain level. Who knows maybe I am going to do more damage, but I have all winter to get healthy again. Summer is for riding.

Mate if you really love dirt riding you will find a way. The body is strong and will recover, the mind stronger still. All the best and get into physio as soon as possible and dont squibb on the recovery process. We will soon hear your biking stories, you WILL OVERCOME.

Best Wishes
Glenn.

Good luck! Remember that the doctors only practice medicine, so they can only guess about your recovery. ;)

If you want to ride again you will, period! I met a guy (on a Husky even) with no left arm and he ripped. I figure as long as I can still walk I will ride. Good luck with the surgery, I know how bad surgeries and the mental anguish that comes with them are, I've had 5 in last 5 years.

Keep a positive mental attitude and keep the faith. Knowing that you want to ride again will speak volumes with respect to your recovery. Doctors practice medicine... that sometimes means they don't have it right all the time. Keep on trucking.

I've fractured both ankles, cracked vertibre in my neck, disc degeneration in my back, tore my Achilles and am due for my second shoulder surgery. I've been told by many doctors that I wouldn't ride again. I'm still riding! Keep the faith - you will ride again!! Prove the doctor wrong.

I am recovering from 2 badly sprained ankles and 2 fractured heels right now. This happened in April and I am still not walking around too good yet. I did get out on my Harley for about a 2 hour ride the other day. Made me feel much better. I will be getting back on the Husky as soon as possible!!! Hang in there!!!
