    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

250-500cc Making the front brakes "touchy"

Hey guys, have an 09 wr 300. Love it but one thing i do miss about my ktm was how touchy and strong the brakes where. I got the quality motul 4.0 and expensive pads in it. I flush the oil every couple months. Yet i cant quite get the front brakes strong enough for my liking. The rears are just fine. I ride with one finger over front brake all the time. The mtn single track i ride probably makes my front rotors glow red.

Theres all kinds of aftermkt rotors and brake upgrades on ebay but didnt want to spend a ton of money for a little gain. Or do they make a huge difference over stock? Open for suggestions thanks.
 
Wow, that's quite a bit different from my 2011 300! I quickly got less grabby pads so that I wouldn't kill myself in tight rocky downhill sections!:eek:

Part of the problem is I am a former powerlifter and weigh 275. My old ktm was awesome though.
 
Might be that the KTM master cylinder has a bigger bore and maybe you could swap in one them on the Husky perhaps??
 
Kinda' surprising...... My 09 wr250 front brake is considerably stronger than my 07 KTM 200 brake !
 
They are normally VERY grabby. You have the same components as you did with the KTM.

Put the bike on the side stand and turn the bars to the left. Pull the lever in and zip ty it to the bars. Let it set that way for 24+ hours. Remove the ty and start "Flicking" the lever at the end. If you remove the cover you should see tiny bubbles coming from the line. Sometimes this can take a while before all the bubbles stop. If it's bad and you see a lot of bubbles for a long time I recommend that you repeat the process.
 
When I got my 2009 wr 250 second hand I noticed that the front brake was the same as my 2006 ktm xc 300. I flushed the by reverse bleeding it and it works awesome.

Well, you have plenty of strength to pull in that brake lever then.
I could easily lock up the front brake with one finger, and now two fingers, now that I put the less grabby compound pads on.
