• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

This thread documents my preparations of a TE610 for an adventure ride in NZ, as well as issues that have come up on the trail. Will hopefully give TE folks a sense of common issues...

Heres the bike before:

And in adventure mode:

I reset my suspension to factory defaults. I'll tune it again when I get it fully loaded.

Here's my home preload adjustment toolkit - that and some sore fingers from turning the spring!

Next project: remove that safari tank decal...

Here's the tools:
safari0.jpg

If Safari had a modest logo on there somewhere low on the tank I would have left it, but I don't want my bike advertising someone else's website. A bit of a "do I really want to do this?" moment:

On she goes:

The after. I didn't scrub it completely off because I thought I ought to leave some plastic thickness. I guess its pink, but its better than before. A few scratch marks but nothing like what it will look like after a couple of drops:

And the sad story of my fuel pump. As you can see both of the petcocks have been replaced with non-plastic ones by different mechanics...

safari3.jpg

Even those solid metal petcocks don't help me because this sucker is LEAKING around bolts where the metal meets the safari plastic. The Just Gas Tanks guys said "you need a gasket" but it doesn't appear to be a standard part. Any ideas folks?

Try the product call " Right Stuff " it's a very good gasket / sealant. Bike looks good! Maybe a Husqvarna logo sticker over the Safari logo? Good luck!

Thanks. Will try Right Stuff!

Apparently stickers and paint dont stay on these guys long...

Ride report will start in January...

There really should be prep reports though. It takes a whole team, it seems. I enjoy wrenching, but often need advice, and when it comes to opening the engine covers I leave that to experts. Here's Nick, from Rockwell Cycles, who replaced the cam chain, and did some hard last-minute scrambling replacing the petcock on the fuelpump after the plastic one broke, so the bike could ship in time:

And a big shout-out to Dan from MotoXotica who sold me the bike and has been an untiring source of wisdom (his photo):

A product called "seal all" is good with gasoline. It a clear polymer gel that dries fast. I always carry a tube in my fanny pack for emerg repairs. Cam.
