• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

major engine braking

well I have done pu power c airbox 42t sprocket ecu and I just cant seem to get the bike to run good

hard throttle runs great easy shifts 1st-3rd are notchy and when at low revs like slow traffic my bike goes then when let off throttle it like jerks and shutters when I ease back on the gas its jerky then goes, am I to lean not lean enough

anyone got their 630 running smooth if so what fuel map did you use

thanks

It's going to "chug" down real low in the RPM no matter what you do to it, and engine braking is a fact of life on a big thumper.

When you say "ECU" what ECU? Any exhaust mods?

no exhaust is next on the list its got te ecu

I know its a 630 single but its like really bad im talking like letting off the gas at like 3500 rpm

Get the new exhaust on there that should help a bit. It will reduce backpressure and make it respond to extra fuel a lot better.

Do you have the stock or 14t front sprocket? The higher your sprocket ratio, the more engine braking you will experience.

It takes a delicate touch rolling around in traffic slowly, my bike runs great, but at walking speeds it will get jerky unless you're slipping the clutch. I'm thinking about trying out the gen2 Kush sprocket when the stock one wears out.

yea stock14t i never really considered that

i bought a jt sprocket its great but im kinda broke now so when it wears i got the stocker

Stock is 15t, but a lot of people replace it with the 14t.

The 14t would make the engine braking more noticeable.

Many people say, like RDTCU's done, that racing exhausts lessen the engine braking.
Anyway, if it will still be too much with the new exhaust, you can try to handle it.
Before the 610, I had a 2 stroke moped, so when I switched to the Husky the engine braking annoied me very much.
In traffic, when you are in first gear, I think that the only way to reduce the on-off effect is not to release the throttle when you slow down, but close it gradually.
While, when you're entering a corner, if you don't want to slide, you should do like Lawson in this video at 0:16:
(He had to reduce the engine braking on a 2 stroke: strange). He opened the throttle to increase the revs, getting rid of the engine brake.

I was thinking its my tuning because it wasn't to bad until I opend the air box and the sprocket mod i don't have an auto tune yet so my dealer tunes my bike and it was AWFUL when i got it back at first brought it back and they leaned it out a little and it was better but still very annoying i was asking if anyone has fixed thru tunning that instant on off felling in the throttle

oh and that vid is so sick

See how the exhaust helps, it should, but you might just have to lay off the caffeine and be smoother with your on/off throttle :D

Being smoother with the throttle is the cheapest modification to fix the problem! :D If it doesn't work, at least you won't have wasted money!
IMHO, it could simply be a matter of gaining a good grasp of the new behaviour of the engine.
PS: it worked pretty well for my 610: I've learned how to stay more comfortable in traffic.
Moreover, the "Lawson's trick" (which is not a teen drama ahahah) works very well to let me enter corners without skidding and, obviously IMHO, to stress less the transmission.

Ahah, it's the name I've given to the Eddie Lawson's techinique shown in the video I posted yesterday!
