  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What is the best cleaner to use on air filters to dissolve the oil & remove dirt? I have considered various solvents, but fear damaging the foam or glue. Surely there is a good product made just for foam filters. I just dont yet know what it is. Recommendations welcomed.

Gasoline in a well vented area. Older Husky Riders advice works perfect. Container with gas to clean the heavy stuff. Another container with gas to give it a final clean. He has over 17,000 miles and is on his second air filter. That sold me!

Thanks. Gas it is. I used to use it, but feared it would dissolve the glue. Water and detergent takes too many washes, and forever to dry.

I've seen fuel/gas/petrol slowly dissolve a foam filter (in Australia).
I use a solvent degreaser.

Simple Green. Dilute some and adjust to suit. I had contacted Twin Air about the bio powder/oil not cleaning so well in hard water, and they suggested Simple Green could be added.

I thought it would dissolve the glue also. Best cleaner. I have one of those double window fans in my garage that's on all the time. When I clean mine, I'm about 1' away from the fan, and I am unable to smell any gas as I clean a filter. Trying not to be a statistic!

I think it depends on the oil you use. I have UNI filters in all three of my bikes. And I use UNI oil on all of them. It washes right out with simple green or citrus cleaner. I rinse with warm water in the kitchen sink and let it dry over night.
