  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Magura 9.5 clutch oil?

Use Total or another brand LHM. It's a mineral oil designed for Citroen (and other) cars and it is exactly the same as the Magura stuff.
(LHM stands for Mineral Hydraulic Oil, liquide hydraulique mineral from French)
You can find it in some auto stores and from some other sources like the Total- Elf distributors (or Penrite in Australia).
In some places it's a bit hard to find and you might have to order it in, no big deal as contrary to brake fluid it doesn't go off, so a litre will last a long time.
Don't use the of the shelf scented stuff as it has a different viscosity and will make the clutch harder.
LHM is about $10 to $20, depending from where, a litre compared to the ridiculous Magura or Motorex equivalent.

I and others have been using this for years in KTM superduke and other Magura clutched bikes.

Thanks for the help. I was in a pinch yesterday and lost the clutch completely so I ran in and grabbed some mineral oil from the pharmacy section of Walmart since that's the closest place to where my bike stalled. $1.50 a pint and $1.50 for a Phillips since I left my leather man home. Just wondering if it would ruin the seals like brake fluid would. As soon as the new seals come in I'll put in the real stuff since the cheap stuff did make the clutch stiffer which I don't mind since I just came off a kx450f to the husky.

naw, your seals are fine.

I have used several times ATF fluid in KTM and GASGAS hydraulic clutches without issues. ATF is also a mineral low viscosity oil isn't it ?

Seals should be fine! It's still is mineral oil just different viscosity.

ATF should be OK I guess, can't recommend it as additives might be added to make automatic gearboxes work. Should be ok for the seals however.

Singer sewing oil at Walmart works really good. $3 and will last a long time. Cheap mineral oil.
