• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I rode an AHRMA event this weekend. My bike was running good. On the second lap it suddenly ran like it was loaded up and wouldn't clear. Barely made it up a long hill. I got home and pulled the carb (which is brand new) because I thought the main jet came out. Everything looked good. Pulled the reeds, they looked good. I can't seem to find the problem. Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?
The bike is a 1983 wr250 with a new top end, new carb, new air filter. I rode an enduro and a harescramble in the past month with no trouble.
Thanks

The only other issue I can think is on ignition side.
Is everything locked well ? Rotor and mainly stator....

You said new top end , I remember you not being all that satisfied with this motor, so you put a new top end on it how long ago ? and if recent how much break in time was on it ?
You know I'm keepin an eye out for one of these don't cha ???

Check the exhaust to make sure it hasn't carboned up. Especially if it has a spark arrester !

The previous owner did the top end. He had about 2 hours on it. I put about 6 or 7 hours on it. The gas is what I ran in it 2 weeks ago. Topped it off from the same can. I wasn't happy with this motor but with the new carb it's not too bad. Still not great bottom end but I'm ok with it. I will check the spark arrestor for sure. I'll look into the ignition too

I just had the head off. There was a leak at the rear of the head. Took the head off and the 2 bolts were too long and bottomed in the threads before contActing the head. So I got shorter bolts and re torqued the head studs and bolts. The carb is brand new and set up by sudco. The bike has ran good for the hours I put on it. I put the carb on when I bought the bike.

I just pulled the silencer and it looks good. I ran the bike without it just to check and the bike still won't rev good. Sounds loaded up or maybe breaking up. How would I tell if the ignition is going bad?
I noticed the top of the cylinder had oil on it, that's was how I found the head bolt problem.

Well, I found my problem. I would have never guessed this one. I was convinced that the ignition was the culprit so I pulled the flywheel and checked the wires. Everything looked good in the case. I pulled the tank and I noticed the hot wire from the ignition moved when I lifted the tank. It had some heat shrink on it and that was holding the wire on the coil. Turns out the spade fit loose and vibrated off the coil with the heat shrink holding it on the coil. It must have been making intermittent connections and that's what my problem was. Bike runs good now.
Thanks for all the ideas on what my problem was.
Now back to working on the jetting and try to get a little better low end!!

Thanks,I usually look for the simple things first before I really dive in. Everything was new from the air filter to the top end. reeds were old and that was my first thought. They look ok but I am changing them also. Who knows how old they are.

mate had an 84 years ago with the same issue...head bolts too long..kept seizing it in the desert till we sussed it out.
