    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

looking at used TE250's 09 or 10?

Shopping for a TE 250. Found a low miles 09 for much less than a higher mi 10. As for reliability, which one do you recommend? I am not experienced enough to get the most out the bike so Im leaning towards reliability.

very little difference between the 2. I have an 09 and 10 310 which are much the same. I would go for the 09 if the price and mileage differential is attractive enough

Thats the 310. 250 for 2010 was the xlite. Theres quite a big difference. The 09 should be much more reliable and the 10 will feel more like a race bike
 
There is a big difference between a '09 and '10 TE250. The '10 has an X-Lite BMW motor. It is lighter and quicker but maybe less reliable. That said, the '09 Big Block Italian motor makes a good fast trail and desert bike. Plenty of bike for you if you are inexperienced. Get the suspension done for your weight and hight with the money you saved. Will be a blast to ride.
 
I got an '09 310. It's as reliable as a hammer... and it hammers. Fuel pump finally went at almost 8k. Still a relatively cheap part... little over a hundred bucks. Great singletrack bike. Requires a bit of clutch work in the steep switchbacks. Suspension will require some work to get it right for your weight and riding style.
Weak point... fork seals. Easy to replace though. Can be done in about 1.5-2 hours for both legs. About the same amount of time it takes to change both tires.
A Power Commander or JD tuner helps. I got a PCV with Autotune. Great setup.
Mine was damaged in a fire this last summer. I'm now looking at the newer HusKatooms.

Thanks for the replies. They are 50 state legal correct. I'm in ca and the bike is a nv plated.
 
All my buddies ride yamaha & Hondas, so unfortunately test riding one has not worked out.
 
The 09 is the same bottom end as the 450, you'll have to work harder to blow it up. The 09 is carbureted, the 10 is injected. The 10 engine is lighter, quicker, can rev higher (and likes to) and crisper to respond than the 09. The 09 engine will be a touch more "tractory" and will start signing off at lower revs.

I've ridden both and like them both. I bought a 10 as the engine suits my style better. If you get the 10 get a JD Tuner for it to smooth it out.

Both motors are Italian. The '09 is the older heavier motor.

BMW bought the 449/511 motors from Kymco, the scooter folks in Taiwan.

Kymco make a good motor.
 
The 10 is only a couple pounds lighter than the 09? Half of that weight is probably in oil. That is close to 60 lbs lighter than my current bike.
