  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Robert,

Any thoughts as to what initiated the failure? A crash, metal fatigue, poor quality weld, or just plain riding the sh1t out of it? You're a pretty good size guy if I remember, any chance heavier riders may be looking at this area as a chronic failure point? At least you caught it before something "ungood" happened coming off a jump or whatnot.

No wonder all that Teacte and McCain single track is smoothed out. Rob is using his bike as a road grader :lol::lol::lol::lol: Just kidding ya Rob, seriously though, that looks tweaked, maybe you bounced off a rock at some point in that bikes life and you didn't realize how hard you hit

I need you to come over to my little playground Rob. We need to wear some single track in. Introduce ya to a guy I know (LR), lives nearby, drives a fast truck now in Baja, likes to ride single track on a green colored moto.

Mitch.

answers if I can,,,,i have lots of time on her now, we ride hard almost every weekend,,lots of rocks and tight spots. But judging from the crack points it looks like cycle fatigue from my tank assed weight with the addition of hits on the peg, i am not really a crasher so probably just the rock knocks plus my weight. I just got a new foot peg this is my 3rd,,they really are sacrificial which is fine. the cracks open from the top forward area of the welds, not from the bottom. Norm, Yes the Rob North, he just welded up my kids XR100 frame motor mount tab, he is a classic for sure, his shop is here in National city. We are doing McCain with only due piloti domani,,yes folks i am riding on the cracks,,will try to practice my sit down riding then this week its into the shop for weld up. LR super cool would be great to follow him around.

I found that with a HD C clamp I could squeeze the assy back into almost perfect position. Not quite full crack closure, but within a couple of MM, so I am happy with that. News is that it is prepped and ready for Mr. North to do a little welding metal magic. Should be done today. Need to ride this weekend!! I will post fotos after job is done. R

I like Roberts style! He gives everyone a heads-up about possible issues/concerns and gets them fixed. He doesn't cry about his bike not being perfect or not having enough power...HE DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT! That's my kind of Husky Bro!

This is another of my (I will bet on it) isolated issues and as I look at the crack again, it even has corrosion in it, so its been working for a while. I think the welding will be done by tomorrow so she's back to work on any Sunday (this one). Sharpened up the left peg waiting to install this new right one then sharpen. With the kids this weekend so will focus on close to camp technical riding for a good weld test. R

This bike is (as the youth say) sick**************************************** (as in fantastic)

fixed, rode yesterday. foot peg position ended up very slightly off-set from the OEM position, no issue for me it's un-noticible. will post fotos of final repair,,,,if you put the machine in the crusher the only thing that will remain will be the welded portion of the frame!!! It's a very solid weld. (PS sharpened pegs give very good solid feel) R

I have a an 08 250 txc and this calls into question my peg attachment hitch carrier (ultimate MX hauler) usage...anyone have any input on this?

Found on my 2008 TXC450 the RH footpeg mount cracked at the top attach point weld. It was an easy fix. One quick weld and I am back in business. Thanks for the heads up Roberticco.

Good question.

I'm a belt and suspenders type guy, so I would probably have a safety system in place just like a safety chain when pulling a trailer. I would do that regardless of the bike.

Agreed...I was actually more concerned about cracking the peg in the first place. I'm making some mods to the jeep and am wondering if i should just trailer the bike (and get an aftermarket bumper with not nearly the tongue hitch capacity of an actual hitch), or stick with the heavy duty hitch and go with it...

sorry for the hijack. I'll start another thread if it is more appropriate, but I do think a peg strength/new gen hitch carrier discussion needs to take place...if it hasn't already...and if it has and someone wants to throw me a link, i'll shut up now :)

peg is tweaked back maybe a couple mm, its unnoticable while riding, but when you look down at it you can see it.
